Has anyone used their pregnancy as
An excuse to call in sick to work. Even though they know Im leaving in a month, my job keeps giving me MORE HOURS! I work part time (about 25 hours a week), and Im on my feet the entire time Im at work, and lately its starting to take its toll...Im having a healthy pregnancy, so I haven't called in sick at all...but want to start I don't get sick days, so its not like I need to save any...what are some good reasons a pregger calls in sick???

If you need the time then you take it.
backache
migraine
your feet and legs are so swollen from working the extra hours on your feet
that should cover at least 3 of them!!!

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
I have not only because I am trying to save all of my days for my maternity leave. But if you can't save your days and they are giving you extra hours that you don't want or can't do anymore, then I would definitely either call out or talk to someone and tell them it's just too much on you now. Luckily I have had an extremely healthy pregnancy where I didn't need to call out at all, but even then their were still days where I said to myself "wow I could really use a day off", and I am not standing at work, so I can only imagine how hard it is for you. Talk to them, hopefully they will ease up your work load

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
no, but after a very late night my boss gave me the following day off, and I'm not sure she would have said that had she not known I was pregnant

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
NEVER EVER - it's the worst thing you can do if you want to be taken seriously @ the office.
I have called in b/c I've had bronchitis, or an asthma attack - but never b/c of a pregnancy related issue.
ETA: If you need a day, lie about it. Don't make it PG related - say you have a terrible cold, a stomach virus - something you'd otherwise call in sick for.

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
i wish i can answer this yes, but sadly no, i actually havent taken a day off all year (minus whatever snow days we were lucky to have) because i wanna save as much of my own time so i can take 3 weeks vacation in addition to my maternity leave (if you would even call it that)

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
I had to last week because I had some spotting and the Dr. advised me to stay home and just relax. Luckily where I work I get 100% pay for up to 12 weeks and would also get paid for bedrest.

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
Thanks everyone...I've been there for 10 years...not worried about losing my job or being take seriously, ...not sure Im going back after the baby is born...just pizzed that at 34 weeks they decide to throw more hours my way when 5 months ago I would have loved the extra hours, Im starting to feel done now...as of now they have nobody to replace me, and somebody else just left, which is how I got the extra hours! Plus, we are hoping to be moving in the upcoming weeks, so I will def be calling in sick in the future!
ETA that im part time so I dont get paid for any time I will take off after the baby. They have to hold my job for me, but dont have to pay me maternity...

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
Nope, have not used the pregnancy as an excuse at all. I have over 120 sick days banked and even though I could take a day here or there if I wanted to, I don't. I have taken two days this entire school year and only because I had really bad colds each time. DH thinks that's silly but that's the way I work.... I feel too bad.

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
I have called out sick and actually called out today due to pregnancy. I wouldn't do it on a regular basis but once or twice is okay. I've called out for backache once and today is the second time for my braxton hicks contraction. I'm 30 weeks!

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
I held out as long as I could bc I wanted to save my time for when DD arrives, but now that I'm 36 weeks I have taken a day or half day here and there. I'm on my feet all day at work and my ankles and feet are starting to swell and it's getting very hard to be there. I had every intention of working full time til the very end, but it didn't work out that way. My job has been very good and understanding so I feel lucky.

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
2 pregnancies & the only reason why i ever called out sick was for last Monday when I had a stomach bug. I was so weak, I couldn't even lift up my arm.
I hate calling in to begin with.

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
Nope. I need to save my days for after the baby is born so I haven't taken any so far. I was ordered to stay home two days and keep my feet up by the doctor, but I worked from home to cover the days.

Re: Has anyone used their pregnancy as
I haven't yet this entire pregnancy but I definitely plan to over my last month! And with the way things operate around here, I dont feel bad about it in the least. Me calling in sick for a day will not affect my time off once the baby is here.
