Europe and Toddlers

Am I insane for considering taking our 1 yr old to Europe with us? We have always wanted to go to Europe together, the plan was to go before we had kids but that just never happened.

Has anyone gone to Europe with your infant? am I crazy to even consider this? Chat Icon

Re: Europe and Toddlers

why not? We took DD when she was 3 months and again at 10 month to Ireland. We plan to take her again when she is just over two and my new baby will be about 4 months.
Traveling with babies and infants isnt super duper easy but you just have to make sure you plan ahead and take it slower than you would if you went by yourself.
you will have a great time!

We haven't gone yet but we would definitely bring DD with us. We are hoping to bring her sometime next year to see DHs family (she will be 2).

Go for it!

Re: Europe and Toddlers

we took my son to Spain and Italy the day after his first birthday.

I was honestly dreading the plane ride but he was so totally and completely awesome, he's getting a Porsche at 16. he earned it Chat Icon .

certain things will be more difficult. the sleep schedule will be affected and naps have to be taken in to consideration. but at this age, at least for us....everything was so exciting and new. just chasing the pidgeons in front of the Duomo was incredible for him...and for me to see, as his mom...no words for how special it was.

but all in all, we had a wonderful time. and we can't wait to do it again!!!!

share the world with him! Chat Icon

Re: Europe and Toddlers

We are planning a trip to Europe next summer - or at least thinking about planning one.

I miss Italy and can't wait for DS to be older to return - he will be 1 in Sept.

I think it will be a great experience for him. Although, I am anxious about the plane ride, that is what is stopping me from going this summer.

Re: Europe and Toddlers

not insane at all.

I've traveled Europe extensively with my two. DD was 18 months the first time she went to Italy.

Then she was 2.5yrs and DS was 8-10 months (we were there 2 months). Back again when DD was 3 and DS was 1.5yrs. And at 4yrs and 2yrs.

It can't be so bad if I keep going Chat Icon I think they're such great travelers because we started them young, and they're used to it now. They've been all over Italy and Switzerland and also to Belgium & Sweden.

It can be done! When DS was 7 months old, I took him to Greece for 2 weeks. He did GREAT on the flight, adjusted to the time difference after one day without any problems, and we both had such a wonderful time. Go and enjoy!

Re: Europe and Toddlers

We took our 2 year old to Rome. I was in a panic but overall she did great. Try taking a flight out at night and brings lots of stuff to keep occupied on the plane. We let her walk when she wanted and there were a lot of places to run around. Just dont go with a strict plan, be flexible and all should be ok.
