Scheduled C-Section Moms

So, I'm having a scheduled c-section with #2.
I planned to have a vag birth with #1. I was 10 days late with DS and was scheduled to be induced. At the hospital it was nuts. B4 they even started anything I was contracting and never felt anything. DS heart rate rapidly dropped and next thing I know they tried an adrenaline shot and then I was wheeled into the OR and being put under.
DS was born about 3 hours after walking into the hospital. I never got to hold him the 1st day and the recovery wasn't so great.

Anyway, whenever I tell pple I'm having a sched c-section (which I have no problems with) I always get... HOw come? Are you going to try for a Vbac?
Like I'm a failure for just planning a sched c, which is what my OB recommends. Yes, I may be able to try a VBAC, but I don't want to take any chances.
ANyone else who's having a sched c get that reaction? Like I'm not even giving it a try?
BTW... I don't let it get to me. DH and my family knows how nuts the day was and just glad both DS and I are ok. Both supportive. It's usually from other pple.

I'm doing the opposite and getting the comments about - why would you try VBAC when you can just get another C-section?

People are always going have an opinion - we must learn to brush it off and just do what's best for us Chat Icon

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

Erica, as you know im also scheduled. People do comment all the time about why I wouldnt want to try to a VBAC. I dont let it bother me. I kindly tell them that my Drs recommends I dont try for it and its what Im comfortable with. I'd much rather go in and have my baby in my arms within 20 minutes than go through what I went through with Kiera. Im sure you feel the same...Chat Icon

I get this reaction a lot.

I just tell people I have discussed it with my doctor and a scheduled c is my best option.

If it isn't one thing, it's another.....Chat Icon

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

People ask why i am going for another c-section after my last almost killed me but for DH and i the risk of the vbac outweight the risks of anotehr c-section, we just want a healthy baby and for us both to come home healthy. Plus the placenta is not allowing me to have a vbac anyway. They can all just shove it, it's our decision!

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

I haven't encountered many people asking specifically about the VBAC....some of them hestitate and say "are you having another section?". But there doesn't seem to be much concern one way or the other.

But should i run into anyone pushing a VBAC on me, I think I'll probably unleash the preggo hormones....i spoke with my Dr. about i, I weighed the risks/benefits, and it just isn't for me. DD was big with a big head, she was breech, and I don't know what my pelvis looks like if I could even push out a baby....which would mean an emergency c-section. For me...it's not an option. And for the rest of the world...not their business Chat Icon

I get that comment too, but I have an easy out. Here in Las Vegas hospitals won't allow VBACs, so its out of my hands.

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

No actually I get the opposite reaction, like they are happy for me to be having a repeat c-section.
With DS1 I also had to be put under bc the epidural caused me to have back spasms and roll up into a ball in pain. I could not staying laying still for v-birth or a be conscious.
Anyway as far as my Dr, DH and I are concerned I am doing what is best for me AND the baby. There is no point in putting me through excruciating pain nor risking harm to the baby just so I can say I gave it a try.

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

If I had gone through what you went through I'd be doing the same thing. This way you will know for sure that you'll be awake when DC #2 arrives, that alone is exciting!

How come no VBAC? When someone asks you "how come," honestly, I would say "because" and if they pressed the issue, I'd give them my OB's number so they could discuss it with them, if they think they know better. Chat Icon

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

Yes. I had a rush c-section with DS1. I was checked in at 9:59 and he was born at 10:47.

I realized when making my decision (I'm a good candidate for a vbac) that the one thing I DIDN'T want was another delivery like I had the first time.

I've had a couple of people say "oh, you don't want to try?" It bugs me because I really thought long and hard about which way to go.

In the end I realized you have to do what is right for you -- everyone is going to have an opinion -- on anything (the way you deliver, the names you choose, the way you do things....)!

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

I don't give a flying eff what anyone says or thinks -

I was in labor w/ Sean for EVER, and waited even longer for the epidural - as far as i'm concerned I've experienced everything but pushing - and I couldn't care less - I am MORE than happy to walk into the hospital and say "Hi, here to have my baby today" this time around -

No one really says anything to me though, b/c it's know of a known thing that I'm not exactly the 'au naturale' type and I'm ALL about modern medicine and anything that makes my life easy and the baby safe -

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

I am not scheduled yet...I am still debating but I am leaning towards the section. My reason for the section the first time was not as dramatic as yours but still completely legitimate and safest for the baby. and that is all I care about. BUT I feel like I constantly have to justify why I had the c section the first time. Maybe it is all in my head but I just feel like some people have no clue that it is NOT the easy way out and most of the time it is totally necessary. So when I tell people I am probably having another c section this time, I do feel judged a bit for not "trying."

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

I have never had a comment made about having a vbac...>I do get people asking why I am having a scheduled c/s or why I had a c/s in hte first place...

But whatever for some reason people feel the need to be nosy!

I am perfectly content in having TWO scheduled c/s as long as I have 2 happy and healthy babies!!!

I'm still debating about what to do, but when I tell some people I'm thinking about VBAC they think I'm crazy Chat Icon Then I hear horror stories that make me even more nervous to try. I think it's one of those things, people will have an opinion one way or another no matter what you do Chat Icon

I tried (or at least entertained the VBAC idea) for #2, so maybe that's why I didn't get negative comments...but now it seems that when I tell people both my kids were 10+ pounds and it's not an option it usually gets people to shut up or a little bit of sympathy.

Re: Scheduled C-Section Moms

I always get asked "Was DS born via c-section?"...um yeah. I just tell them I am not taking any chances this time and that I'm having a scheduled c-section. 20 hours of labor with DS to end up with a CS so this time it is scheduled. You have to see their reaction when I tell them I'm FF not BF.

People have something to say about everything Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am having a scheduled C section because my ob and my high risk specialist think its the safest way to deliver my twins. Only one person said something to my face about it, and I replied, something along the lines of....how many years of medical school do you have?

I really don't get all the judging that comes along with motherhoodChat Icon unless I see someone causing physical harm to a child, It is NOT my business!!!
