UPDATE: if you took your LO to a specialist for flat head...
where did you take him or her? looking for a rec for a neurologist or wherever the appropriate place would be. our doc had us really worried about it months ago and then made me feel like it had gotten better (after tons of belly time and positioning) so we kind of relaxed about it. but now every time i bathe DS and his hair is wet I just cringe because I feel like his head just doesn't look right. I wouldn't be as concerned if it were just a bit flat, but it's lopsided. Although it's not so noticeable to others expecially when his hair is dry and messy, I see it and I know I will not rest until I go see a specialist and get some advice. just wish I hadn't waited so long since he is 9 months. so anyway recommendations would be great.
UPDATE We took DS to ped who also recommended Dr. Mittler (funny that I got his name here first) although he didn't think it was necessary. We saw Dr. Mittler today. We really liked him. He does not think DS needs any treatment. We are so relieved. Thanks for all the recommendations. I am so glad to have gone and gotten peace of mind.

I, like you, was freaking out. I ended up taking DS at 10 months old at our pediatricians insistence. We saw Dr. Mittler who was wonderful and told us that our baby's head was fine! Finer words have never been spoken. I asked him to write it in a letter and send it to my ped to get him off my back lol. I would def recommend him. He is in New Hyde Park.

We went to see Dr. Mark Mittler. Here is the website. http://www.lineurosurgery.com/lin-physicians_mittler.html
My older son ended up with a helmet at 6 months. He wore the helmet until he was a year old. I actually went my younger son but he didn't recommend a helmet, just more tummy time. He is very nice and easy to talk to.

We saw Dr. Elizabeth Trinidad in West Islip and she said that DS head was fine. His head is still flat, he is 10 months, but it looks better than 2-3 months ago. She is a neurosurgeon. BTW I heard great things about Dr. Mittler. He just didn't take out insurance.

Love Dr. Mittler!! DS also ended up in a helmet. It's been about 4 months and he goes back on May 12th for an exit scan.

We also saw Dr Mittler for our daughter (did not need a helmet) - Dr M is the kindest, most reassuring doctor I have ever met. He is truly a special doctor - I would not hesitate to recommend him to others!

Re: if you took your LO to a specialist for flat head...
Thank you so much for all your replies. DH and I are both home this week so we are taking DS to ped tomorrow to discuss the issue and get his recommendation. In the meantime I already made an appt to see Dr. Mittler on Thursday. So regardless of what our ped says I think we're going to take him so we can sleep better at night. I just want him to be perfect, as every mommy wants for their LO, and I'm totally blaming myself that his head looks the way it does. I know that's irrational but I can't help it.

I'm glad you are going to see Dr. Mittler. He is really amazing and has been absolutely wonderful to both of my boys! Lots of peds don't know enough about plagio or other head issues. Dr. Mittler is an expert and your DS will be in excellent care with him. Also, if your DS really doesn't need a helmet, he will be honest with you! I can't say enough good things about him. Love him!

Cranial Technologies
They took our insurance (BCBS)
No NY office though, only NJ and CT
we LOVED them. so great with DD!
ETS we were sent to them by the Ped with a known diagnosis of Brachycephaly. They measured her to confirm diagnosis and made her DOC Band for her. Also did all the follow-ups
check to see if your insurance covered DME (durable medical equiptment) or Cranial Molding Devices
