SO UPSET!!
We had an offer on a co-op, everything was all said and done. We both had lawyers who were looking over the contract which would have been signed with a deposit sent this week. Everything was perfect. We get a call today; the seller's agent showed the apartment again and got an offer for asking...20k more then our deal. Total scumbag move. Of course since he's both the selling and buying agent (of this new deal) he gets 100% of the commission. We lost the co-op. This place was perfect in every way and with a baby on the way we would have been able to move in right before she is born. I can't tell you how horrible this feels. So just be forewarned even if you have an accepted offer and the agents tell you it’s a done deal and everything is going smooth it can be ripped away in an instant.

That really is annoying! We are going through this now. I hate house hunting more than anything. We found our perfect house last week, put in an offer an hour after we looked at it and even asked above asking price and the sellers accepted someone elses offer who were putting more of a down payment. So frustrating. Our LO is due next month!

In the words of Beth (who I totally recommend you calling and working with) you'll find something better. As hard as it is try to see the positive in it. Good Luck and like I said give Beth a call, she is awesome, and will def fight for you.

My advice to you to avoid this in the future is to employ the services of a buyer's agent...that way you have someone looking out for your interests and your interests only.

We're not buying on LI so we wouldn't be able to use her.

Thanks. We actually did use a buyer's agent. She's as upset as us since the market there is VERY close knit and she has been dealing with this other agent for many many years and on many previous deals.
The area we were looking in is very limited since it is only 1 block of buildings. We choose this building in particular because it was newer (the others are prewar and very old inside) and near a train so we can commute to work easily. Our realtor when we originally put the offer in told us units like this don't open up often and we don't feel we will be able to find anything else for a very long time now. We feel totally robbed.
