Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
What age did you start making DC follow the dietary rules of Passover - no bread, matzah, etc. Just curious.

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
DD is 28 mos and I have no plans on making her follow the rules, I mean she'll eat what we have in the house but if she wants pancakes for breakfast I'm not going to enforce it with her...I think by 5 I may start. DH is actually very strict with passover and he agrees with me about the age

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
I think once they are old enough to "get" it and they are getting a formal Jewish education, we will enforce it. I have a hard enough time getting DH to "keep" passover!

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
I was thinking maybe when he starts Hebrew school... although I can't remember what age that is so maybe around 5 sounds good When he can get it more. Right now he barely eats so if he wants toast and cream cheese he'll have it DS is only 22 months though
He does love matzo ball soup though

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
Definitely looking forward to DS trying matzah ball soup although I have a feeling he won't love it, but who knows. The picky eater has surprised me with some things!

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
My parents never "made" us do it. I want to lead by example, but I won't force her. If she's anything like me, that''ll push her in the other direction!
eta: she's 4 months old right now, so it's not an issue for awhile!

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
I am not sure. I think breakfast will be the hardest for the kids to follow. I will let them have a waffle but for the rest of their meals they will eat what we eat which means they will keep the holiday.

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
DD is only 15 months, so yes and no.
We kind of keep passover, but are not as strict as some are. We won't have bread in the house, and we won't make pasta or rice or anything with flour.
However, she will have her puffs, cheerios, teething biscuits, and any other baby food that is not kosher for passover.
When she is old enough to understand - I have no idea when that will be, I think we will keep passover.

same here. my parents never made do anything for the holidays, so we never did. even now i eat bread on passover. i know...horrible Jew...i never dropped out of hebrew school. i have a feeling when DS goes to Hebrew School he'll ask to do these things. if he does, then I'll start following the "rules"

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
According to my MIL, the halucha is age 3. Before then, it's okay to mix meat/dairy, etc......
With that said, I think around age 4 or 5 I will start to "enforce" it.
While I don't keep bread in the house during Passover, I don't completley kosher my house for the holiday. If she wants her cookies or her cheerios, she can have them
ETA: She is 26 months

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
My home is completely kosher for Pesach. This year DS (19 months) will be keeping passover. Last year when he was much younger, I did have his baby oatmeal and his bowls/spoons in a cabinet especially for him. This year I feel like it would be too hard to keep food separate. He will be eating the kosher passover O's that taste That being said, we keep a kosher home during the year but we allow DS to have his milk with dinner. We will stop doing this when he turns 3.

Re: Question for the Jewish Mommies about Passover
My son is 3 1/2 and my daughter is 18 months old. I basically make everything from scratch during passover and have a menu plan that I worked out. I think I posted it on Food last year. If I can find it I will link it.Passover menu
