Is it normal for an 11 month old to have a "tantrum"?!
DD will be 11 months on the 6th!
Lately, if we are holding her and she doesn't "get her way", she THROWS her head back and screams. Then she does this whole fake crying thing. Is this normal or do we have a DIVA on our hands?!?!

I don't know how "normal" it is, but ds started this crazy behavior at 8.5m. I started reading everything I could get my hands on to figure out what it is.
DS is now 12m, we still see them from time to time, but with some changes in how we do things, it much better, but it took time.

I really like the concept of the method behind "Happiest Toddler on the Block", but I think there is more to it that what he talks about, I had to sort of adjust it for us.
watch this, about 4 min in, they talk about the method http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HQz4nOsqyg
This works well, because you affirm the child's feelings and you make the child know they've been heard. Its magic when you're child feels they have been heard and are respected.
I don't believe in the screaming back to child, it just upsets DS more. I say "I see you want xyz" as non-emotionally as possible, and often in a firm but kind manner. It works so much better for us.
I've also adapted aspects of the RIE parenting approach, I follow this blog and I think the articles are fabulous: http://www.janetlansbury.com/
I think this made all the difference in the world, in everything we do, we are so much calmer and happier and can deal with bad days so much better now.

Is it normal? I don't know.
Is Sienna doing this as well, having started about the same time as Liv? Yup

DS started around 8 months. He would have this scream and kick if he didn't get what he wanted. If I was holding him I would put him on the floor and walk away. That seemed to work. Now when he throws a fit I talk to him and try to get out of him what he wants. If its something he can't have I tell him. Now he knows the difference. If he starts crying or screaming I leave him alone and ignore him. It stops pretty quickly. Usually hell come to me for a hug and then he's off doing whatever.
