ugggg 9 days old and has diaper rash :(

my poor baby is only 9 days old and already has a red botton- super RED just in his butt hole area ( sorry gross word) I am using destin and let him go diaper free for a littel once and a while ( he just peed on me LOL) also has a bit of diareaha I think - everytime I change his dipaer or he cries its poop in there and its very watery- he is forumula feed. I think the dipaer rash could be from the wipes I am using they have a light scent to them so now I am just using a wet washcloth. but what about the diareaha what would it be from what can I do??? thanks for any advice I just feel so bad for him.

At 9 days old, I would probably call the ped for the diarrhea.

Triple Paste works well for us for rashes. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would call the ped if he has watery diarrhea. It could be a reaction to formula, stomach virus or something else.

I would lather his butt with diaper cream or even Vaseline after each diaper change. It should help Chat Icon

And I would stop using the wipes. Just use a moist washcloth. And in the future when he's feeling better buy the sensitive wipes with no scent.

The diarrehea could be from a milk protein allergy. Ask the dr to test a poopy diaper...I used aquaphor and desitin on DS's diaper rash..

What diapers are you using? I'd switch to using the dry wipes and use water on them and lather him up with vaseline. My littlest guy had diaper rash not long after he came home from the hospital and it continued getting worse, after trying everything and the ped prescribing cream since nothing was helping, we learned it was the diapers, we switched from pampers to huggies and within days all cleared up, just thought i'd throw that out there in case you were using pampers, it's worth a try.

My 15 day old just got over a horrible horrible rash....DS's poo was coming out practically water (yellow) and he was going non-stop..Ped wanted us to come in, but when he saw it said it was normal at that stage in the game...In the past few days it has thickened up thankfully.

Our ped has us do a Maalox (or you can use Mylanta) mixture with cornstarch powder...make it into a thick paste and lather on...Dry it well (you can even use a blowdryer on cool)..He also said , while he napped to leave his tush exposed to air w/out a diaper on (layed him on a towel )

Once it started working we switched over to Triple Paste (this stuff is hands down the BEST) and it cleared up practically overnight..

I know how terrible it was , hope your DS's rash goes away soon Chat Icon

Re: ugggg 9 days old and has diaper rash :(

That happened to Lauren. I switched from the wipes i was using to Parents Choice Real Cloth Sensitive wipes (3 pack for $4.50-purple pack) at WalMart and used Bordeaux's Butt Paste instead of Destin and A&D and all was well. I still use those wipes too. I swear by Destin, whenever she gets a rash, i slather some butt paste on there and within hours it's so much better and the redness is usually gone. It's all i use now.

You can use the VIVA papertowels for wipes. That way you can throw them out.

This is what I used for the first month. They're super soft.

DD had a horrible diaper rash at about a week old too. It was apple red and shiny - the ointments wouldnt even stick to the skin Chat Icon The dr rx'd Mupirocin cream, and it cleared up in a day or 2. Now every diaper change, she gets Triple paste or Desitin slathered on.

Poor baby! Yes, def switch from the wipes and call ped. I also notice that if you cover each diaper in vaseline before you put it on it is very helpful. Kind of puts a barrier between the skin and the poop. Also makes wiping much easier, just slides off. Good luck!

What you're describing sounds like an "allergy ring". DS had it at that age from his milk allergy also. I would bring him (and a poopy diaper) to the ped to have it checked out.

DItto to above...try to keep diaper off as much as possible to let air get at it. It will help it heal..I know easier said than done. Also, the RX Vusion works wonders on diaper rash.
DD would get a bledding diaper rash often when she was BF...would clear it up almost immediate.

Re: ugggg 9 days old and has diaper rash :(

My DD had this around 2 weeks old. What was happening was I didn't know any better and I was wiping her with wipes, then applying vaseline as they told me to do in the hospital. But what I didn't realize was she was left moist by the wipes and the vaseline was SEALING in the moisture. Her rash was awful.

What I immediately did was stop using wipes and just use cotton and water (or even a very soft viva paper towel wet in water). That way the water would dry and not leave her slimy like a wipe would. I would pat her dry and only after being dry apply a mixture of desitin and vaseline. The rash cleared up quickly and never came back since I knew what to do to avoid it. I didn't use wipes until she turned a year old after that. However knowing what I know now, I could have used wipes but would have had to use powder (cornstarch) to dry her off before applying vaseline or putting on her diaper (what I do now, I have to use cornstarch powder to dry her off before diapering otherwise she WILL get a nasty rash).

Try it out, I am sure it will help. Are you sure it's diarreaha (sp) btw? Just make sure it's normal poop, not sure what it is based on what you are describing.

In the beginning I was told only Viva Papertowels and warm water for diaper changes. I did that for a LONG timeChat Icon

I didnt start using baby wipes till she was 4 months old and then I just used sensitive ones.

See if that also helps prevent them too.
