Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

IDK. I think 37 weeks is cutting it a bit close to your DD but I am not sure it is really usually all that super sweltering hot in early June.

What time is the shower? Is there shade on her deck?

Maybe just casually mention.... like "wow...Ill be 37 weeks at that point....hope Im not one of those people that miss my own shower...." and kinda joke about it?

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

Wow 37 weeks is late into a PG. I was 36 weeks at mine in March and it was indoors and I was EXHAUSTED afterwards. There was no heat ot humidity to deal with.

I understand being greatful but at that point in the PG you never know what is going to happen.

I agree with the PP about saying something in a joking manor and see what response you get.

My bridal shower was in August and was outside and my guest and I melted.

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

I think it is a little close to your due date. And it will be hot. But maybe you can see if she can set up the gifts inside, so that you can open in the AC? That part takes the longest and is where you will be the most hot, so maybe if they can accomodate you there, that might work. And you can just keep going inside if you are getting too hot, sometimes in early June it is pleasant, but you really can't tell because it is too early.

I am the type of person that would just see if they can make accomodations when they are having the party instead of changing their plans. IDK really though. I will be 34 or 35 weeks at mine and it is at the end of June, BUT we are having it later in the afternoon and are having tents. And it is in my backyard, so if I need to go inside and cool down, I will.

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

It does seem late IMO. I think I would (or maybe have DH--is it his sister??) say that while you are so excited for your shower you are just so nervous you will pop before or AT the party.

I would leave the heat part out. Chat Icon

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

I totally understand how you feel.
Is there any way that she can make it sometime in may??! You def can go early, and in my opinion, you kinda wanna have everything you get from your shower already set up and ready to go for baby's arrival at that point! you are literally going to have to rush home and has DH put together stuff and start washing clothes.

i dont see anything wrong with maybe asking to make it a little earlier.

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

I think 37 weeks is normal to have the shower. I just had mine at 37 weeks and this is my 4th baby. Its your first baby(or seems so by your post, sorry if I am wrong) so chances are higher that you will go past your due date. Honestly I think you are way over thinking it and suggusting any changes seems ungreatful to me. Its one afternoon, I think you can survive it. I am sure if its too hot they wouldn't get offended if you go inside.

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

That's tricky.

If I had to guess they probably didn't want to do it too close to Memorial Day and were afraid any time before then may not be nice enough to be outside.

On top of that it could be insulting to say something since they are "inlaws". I am not sure how your relationship is with them. I suppose casually sayin something along the lines of "I can't believe I'll be 37 weeks then, hope I am not at the point of be rolled around Chat Icon". And see if they get the hint. But if they picked the date based off what I said above, I don't think any subtle hints will make a difference.

Both of my showers were on the earlier side (32 weeks with DS and 29 weeks with this one). But my sister planned them and she is a big planner.

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

I think that the first two weeks of June can still be fine weather wise and probably the best time to have a back yard BBQ event. If you had said they wanted to throw this shower in mid August I would be like you've got to be kidding me but June should still be nice.

But seeing how uncomfortable you are with the date you could always say something like I really appreciate you doing this for me but I do get a little nervous about planning things the closer I get to my due date. Maybe we could try and do this the first weekend in June as I would feel better about that.

i'm due july 14th and my shower is june 11th... in my backyard. but we're getting a tent so everyone will be sitting in the shade. i think the first couple weekends of june will be ok weatherwise. and believe me, i hate the heat and sweating too. i dont think it'll be too close to your due date, cause usually first babies are late anyway. but if you're really concerned, see if they can move it up to May, but then you run the risk of not being able to have it outside like they planned. if you really get too hot, you can always just go in the house to cool down a bit. i think it'll be ok though Chat Icon

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

Honestly i don't think the beginning of June is that hot. I know every Memorial day weekend for the past couple years except maybe one has been pretty cool out. I think you will be fine, and she will prob get a tent. My bridal shower was in my parents backyard and they rented a huge white tent, it looked really beautiful.

My shower is June 4th in my mom's backyard. I think she's getting a small tent to have in case the sun is just too much.

I would mention to them you're a little uneasy about being so far along & see what they can do.

I agree. I don't think it will be so hot in the beginning of June. I think if you sit in the shade it will be nice. However if you are concerned about it being so close to your due date I would suggest moving it until May. I agree that I think it would be ok but you never know what might happen.

I think late May and early June is great weather so it won't be bad. But at 37 weeks, I would feel a bit uneasy.. I would drop hints about it, and cross my fingers that they would get it. Chat Icon

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

I'd say that any date in the 9th month (36 weeks or later) is on the late side. Mine was at 35 weeks and I really did not want it that late, but had no choice. You will barely have enough time to buy other things that you need and make returns and set up the room. I would mention your concerns to your SIL's. I don't think that you will sound ungrateful. Just be honest. Maybe they could move it to May.

Just make sure they get a tent otherwise tell them no deal. Not many want to sit out and roast in the sun these days.

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

i would definitely be a little worried... no necessarily because of the weather, i dont think it will be too hot then... or even the fact that you are 37 weeks and could possibly go early...

but just how uncomfortable you might be at that time in general... regardless of the heat/weather... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

37w is a little late, but I would just suck it up for a few hours and enjoy yourself at the shower. If it's warm, go inside and cool off. Dress comfortably - before you know it, the day will be over and you will be home resting.

Do you feel comfortable asking DH to say something? I think you should enjoy your shower (and be comfortable!) and if you are already stressing it, it kind of takes away the purpose of having a party for you. It is tricky, and I would not want to say anything directly because I would not want to offend anyone, but I would let DH do it!Chat Icon

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

its def a little late. im due 2 days before you and my shower is may 15th. my mom originally said first week of june and i said i would prefer it to be earlier just in case.

that being said i wouldnt be overly paranoid about having the baby at 37w, especially if its your first, BUT i would be as concerned about sitting out in the sun. i would still let them go on with the plans since its a totally nice and generous thing they are doing, but i would make sure to get my 2 cents in about a tent or something to keep you cool.

Re: Honest Opinions on this....PLEASE......

My honest opinion is that you should just suck it up and deal .........I don't mean for that to sound as harsh as it comes off.....I just can't think of another way to say it -
I totally understand how you feel b/c I am an evil miserable witch in the heat too ...........
but I think saying something, or asking yoru DH to say something makes it seem like you're ungrateful (which you obviusly are not) If I were the SILs thrwoing the shower, I'd be kind of put off (even if I DID understand your point) .........

June should't be THAT hot, and if you sit in the shade, I am sure you will be fine. -

I don't think 37 weeks is too late - I was about 36 weeks for mine I think, and was still running around in stillettos - Was I exhausted at the end of the day? Of COURSE - but it's a PARTY - for YOU Chat Icon So it's 'good' exhaustion KWIM? Also, it's not like you're running around hosting or actually even expected to DO anything but sit there all day and relax !!

ITA with the other posts. I think June shower for barely July baby is pushing it. Is there any way, like other said, that you can say something, even in jest? Just to kind of get the point across? They still have plenty of time, especially since its a backyard BBQ, to make it a May shower...
