I'm on bedrest - long, sorry

Well, what I thought would be a nice, lighthearted OB appt last night turned scary.

I went for my growth sono last night at 31w3d and they discovered that my cervix is way, way too short. I was immediately examined and hooked up to the contraction monitor where thankfully, I was found NOT to be having contractions ... but I was told to go home and stay here for the next week, at least.

I'm so, so upset. I've been crying nonstop since I left the office. I've been awake since 2:50 a.m. crying and worrying and just being so depressed. I feel like my body is being so deficient. First the gestational diabetes and now this. I can grow a baby (a 4lb. 7 oz. baby at that) but my body craps out on me the further into the pregnancy I get. I feel defective.

I have so many worries and fears about this. Of course my main priority is the baby. But there are so many other things swirling around my head that I feel bad for even feeling bad about! I haven't made any preparations at work yet for leaving and now I'm panicking that in my absence things will turn to sh*t. We put our apartment on the market and I'm terrified it's going to sell and we're not going to have anywhere to go because I can't leave to look at any houses. I feel so terrified and unprepared and just so upset.

I know that I am not the only woman in history to have a short cervix and go on bedrest, but I am terribly upset and scared and I just don't know how I'm going to get through the next week. I don't know what I'll do if I go back next Wednesday and they tell me that my cervix is still short and that I need to spend more time at home.

Sorry this is so long and rambling - I haven't really spoken to anyone other than DH about this and he's trying so hard just to keep me sane and stop me from falling to pieces. I just feel so lost and scared.

Awwwww...it must be hard. But like you said, it's what you have to do for the baby. You have less than 9 weeks left. I was stressing out last night about houses as well and then people lkept telling me thiongs will fall into place and not to stress it. It's hard, but right now make your main concern the baby. Your body is so not defective. You were able to conceive and carry a baby to 31 weeks and beyond! That's more than some people can say! Try and really think of the positives (even though you may feel there aren't many right now) Keep your chin up girl, thnings will work out and be ok. Bed rest is not the best, but it could be worse. Everytihng will be ok.Chat IconChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I'm on bedrest - long, sorry

i am so sorry and know how you are feeling (I, too, was just out on bedrest, just shy of 33 weeks) but know that by going on bed rest you ARE doing the BEST thing for your baby! The baby needs some special cooking and you are the best oven for it! If you need someone to chat, FM, email with, etc...let's do that!

You are not alone, you will do what it takes to have a healthy baby...take this time and rest...as for your home, I know it's not the same, but perhaps you can find an agent that does tours and would work with your situation. Where are you looking? Maybe you have friends or family you trust who know your taste and can scan out very few and your dr. can let you use a wheelchair to scope them out if it comes to it..I know a friend who had a short cervix and sometimes, for certain things, got permission to do that...

Hang in there...do what the dr. says and like everyone says, it's all worth it in the end...feel well and rest...try not to be upset!Chat Icon

The best thing I can say is that if Chat Icon were born today, she would be perfectly fine. You have cooked her long enough. Everything else is gravy.

Things will all work out. You are an amazing, strong, lucky woman with too good a heart. Work will survive. They'll sorely miss you but they will survive.

I wish I were closer so I could come take care of you!!! I could send my brother if you want but he's a little slow...thank goodness your DH is the polar opposite.

Feel better darling. Hang in there!!!!

Thank you so much Chat Icon

DH actually (in the middle of the night while I was sobbing, lol) suggested that if this bedrest turns into a long-term thing, he will go look at houses and bring his Flip cam with him so I can then see what they were like after. Chat Icon So there's that.

I know none of this is the end of the world but it just feels so scary right now. As I'm sure you can relate. Chat Icon

Aww im sorry you are on bedrest Chat Icon

I know you are mad at your body right now, but think of it this way. Your body was able to make your little miracle and is still giving him/her everything that s/he needs to survive. I know this is the last thing you want to hear right now, but try to relax and take care of yourself. Hopefully this bedrest is temporary and all will be ok.

Re: I'm on bedrest - long, sorry

Anytime! I also reread my post and I meant to say put on bed rest, not out....I am currently also on bed rest...well..there you go with DH..let him get really good at working that camera before your LO arrives! Let your DH be supportive and do all of the things you need him to. I know it seems like such a sentence (and today is the first day I feel ok..but I'm sure more mood swings are to come), but you really are doing the best...let people support you.it will happen..you can do it!

Bedrest blows. No other way to put it. I was put on strict bedrest at 32 weeks pregnant with my DS. Same as you, my body was crapping out on the pregnancy. At 34 weeks I was hospitalized and told I'd be there for the remainder of my pregnancy....and who knew how long that would be.

But, I rested up, followed Doctors orders, and was home in my own bed after 4 days.

I had severe swelling and high blood pressure, like really high (170ish/90!). I was borderline pre eclemptic for 8 weeks!

Long story made short after 2 hospital stints and 8.5 weeks of bedrest I delivered my beautiful DS who couldn't be more perfect even if my body held up better Chat Icon

And, I know you are worried about now, not the future. But this pregnancy I haven't had a single complication like I had with DS and I am 34 weeks with Chat Icon Chat Icon

Hang in there. Get the rest in now because you'll need it when your gorgeous little baby is here.

Recruit family members, stock up on magazines, get netflix, and keep the laptop close by Chat Icon It will help pass along the time.

I'm sorry. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can kind of relate; I was never put on bedrest but I've had my share of problems. I have been on pelvic rest more times than I can count this pregnancy and my last few appointments haven't been all roses either. I found out I was having pre term contractions at 33 weeks. I thought I was going to give birth early and it was terrifying. Than a week after that I thought my water broke. Thankfully everything is now fine but it's scary. I totally can relate to that feeling of being scared and your body being completely all over the place.

I can't imagine how hard it must be to be on bedrest and my heart goes out to you. I want to say that just think of the baby and that you are doing what you need to do for her but it's hard on you even if you are doing it for the best possible reasons. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am so sorry. Hang in there. I am on watch for my cervix so I can relate to that fear. I know that anything can happen with pg. Such an upredictable thing. Take it one day at a time, use it as an excuse to watch movies, look for houses for your DH to look at and relax.

Re: I'm on bedrest - long, sorry

oh I'm sorry to hear this!!! but I agree that your LO will be fine and NONE of this is your fault though I know how hard it is to make yourself believe that. .I know it's not the same at all. . but after a great start, apparently my DS is now losing weight due to not getting enough food during BFing. . while in my head I know it's not my fault, I blame myself constantly and often end up crying during BFing bc i know he's not eating well enough. . it's such a rough, wonderful thing that you are doing, creating life, and so many things in our bodies are out of control. . so just take the steps that you can to do what you can to make this better for you and your LO and just try to remember daily that you are a wonderful mom already and will be a wonderful mom when she is hear. . and your body is doing a fabulous job even it's not perfect!!!!! so many hugs to you and I hope things work out with your house and everything!

let me know if there is anything I can do! Chat Icon Chat Icon

31 weeks is amazing! I'm on bed rest at 21 weeks for a short cervix. Everything will be fine. I searched the forums/boards and found a lot of reassurance from the other girls going thorugh this too. Good Luck and rest up! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
