Advice

When did you ladies lay down the law with in laws and parents in regards to you and your DH are the parents? I have concerns about it and any advice on how to handle it?

i think we're just going to address any situation as it comes up. we're not gonna have a talk with both sets of parents beforehand.

I agree, no reason to start issues before anything happens, they may just shock you and take a step back.

Same here. Nobody has said anything beforehand that makes us think we'll have any major problems, but there are some strong personalities in our families, that we may have to conquer in the future.

The day after we told MIL the good news, she called to Tell us, she would be taking her 5 week vacation right after the babies are born and staying with us. THAT night I had a convo with DHChat Icon

He will address her when the babies come. I appreciate help, but no one will be staying with us.

I will be doing the same - no need to bring anything up before - esp after my little issue this weekend with my rules for the hospital and the response I receivedChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think we'll take it one day at a time.

His SIL's on the other hand that will be a battle regarding discipline for sure....

Re: Advice

I plan on addressing it on an as needed basis. I have the type of relationship with my parents where I'll just flat out tell them not to do something. I deflect anything involving the in-laws to DH.

Re: Advice

I took it one incident at a time -
My parents aren't too much of an issue -
ILs are a different story - but thankfully they don't bother to see my son often Chat Icon

Re: Advice

I'm dreading this, but feel it will be necessary...esp since we're having the 1st grandchild on both sides...and DH has older sisters...

Im going to wait until the situation arises, but quickly put a stop to it!

ITA with these ladies. No reason to address something that hasn't happened yet (unless of course they have already said things to you)

Re: Advice

I am anticipating issues. I dont have a good relationship with my in laws, actually I have issues with them now and have since my DH and I have been married. I dont trust them and DH and I have spoken about their envolvement. I feel as though my mother will over step and I dont have any issues saying anything, but my DH and I are in therapy and the therapist said we should be united and speak to them both together. I dont feel like I need to have the equal conversation with my parents as we do his. My DH is close to my parents. I am feeling stressed and not sure what the best thing to do is. This first grandchild for my family, second for DH. I dont know what to do...Chat Icon Chat Icon
