How long should I wait before installinh the car seat?

I know, this has been asked a million times before!

I am 37w1d and we have the car seat w/base but don't have the second base for the other car yet. I didn't have a shower, so things have been trickling in slowly. And both our parents keep saying they're going to buy big ticket items but they haven't yet.

But I am starting to get a little nervous that we won't get the other base before the baby is born, and I want to have both in and checked at the same time.

Should we just go ahead and buy the base and install it now?


And where can we go to have them check that its installed correctly?(Or have them install it?)

We just put the bases in last weekend (just shy of 38 weeks), but we haven't had them checked yet.

Car Seat Inspection although a Suffolk County Police Officer was at my husband's job the other day and said that we can just stop at any precinct house and they can check it there (or call someone in to check it if nobody is in at that moment, so leave yourself a little time). I don't know about Nassau though.

Knowing me, if I were in your spot, I'd pick up the other base myself just to know I had it, because I'm neurotic like that...LOL.

I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow and the car seat and bases aren't in yet.

At this point, if I were you, I'd go ahead and get the 2nd base. It's too close to wait for one of your parents to get it and I'm not really sure if it would be considered a "big ticket" item anyway.

Honestly, with DS we didn't put the carseat in until DH was ready to pick us up at the hospital. I delivered at 37 weeks. We will probably do the same thing this time.
