For valuables, documents, etc.

Mainly for fire protection, or so it can't be taken from the house? A standalone box version, or something mounted to the house?

Any digital media being stored as well? (CDs, disks, etc)

Yes, mainly fire protection and theft protection. Do some come with the option to mount? I think we're good with something that can just go in a closet.

Something to keep our birth certificate, I guess valuables when we travel - I don't think media necessarily.

Personally, I have a fire proof document holder. I keep it latched but unlocked with the keys in it just in case my home is burglarized, they won't take it since it has documents in it. Unless a safe is mounted properly, it can be removed from the home so I keep valuable in a safety deposit box.

I have two of these


It stores quite a few documents, which is all I use them for. We don't have any jewelry around, so we don't have to worry about theft. I just want the documents to be protected in case of a fire.
