Do you send your DC to school with a runny nose/cough if they have no fever?

DS (3) has a cold yet again. Seems he has one once a month since starting school. He has no fever - just a runny nose and cough but, is acting completely normal otherwise. I kept him home b/c I don't want him to infect other kids. But, I'm wondering if I am keeping him home too much. Everywhere I go I see kids hacking away with runny noses. Since he always seems to be getting sick I am sure someone must be sending their kid in like this. I'm new to this though - what is acceptable?

For a runny nose and cough - I send him to daycare (that's probably where he got it from in the first place).

For a fever or stomach bug, I keep him home.

Yep. Same here.

My DS has NOT had a runny nose/cough for a total of 2 days since January 1st.

But he acts fine, has no fever, so he goes.

Ditto for me... if I kept him home for every runny nose there would be no point for him to go to daycare.
He gets it there anyway

You know what, no flames. I hear ya. I had a feeling maybe I was keeping him home too much.

The better question is when do my children NOT have a runny nose? Yaya constantly has the sniffles with no fever - if I kept her home for every sneeze or sniffle, I would be a SAHM. So, yes, I send her in, unless she's really "off" or has a fever.

When my DS was in the 3 yo program, I kept him out for runny noses/coughs. After a while I felt like he was missing out on a lot of days for nothing, meanwhile you would not BELIEVE the condition some of the kids show up at school in-- practically hacking up a lung. Where do you think he got all these colds from? So I figured, if you can't beat em, join em... and now I send him in if his nose is running (he rarely ever gets coughs for some reason, always runny noses)

No fever
No change in behavior

She goes to school

Heck I send her if she has a low grade fever.
