Catholic girls and lent

Ash Wednesday is tomorrow and DH and I usually follow no meat on Ash Wednesday and every Friday in lent. Do you girls who usually observe lent plan on not eating meat or do pregnant girls get a slide? I was trying to think of what I will eat and the only thing I can come up with is pasta and broccoli or pizza. So I was wondering if I should just skip it this year.

I don't think giving up meat once or twice a week is such a hardship. I did it last year and had no issues.

if ur pregnant or nursing u are exempt.

while its not hardship to give up meat 2x a week, it is also not a sin if u eat it during bf or pregnancy.

(to me its not a sin regardless - if i forget no harm done Chat Icon )

I agree. There are times when I wasn't pregnant that I forgot. I don't think it is a sin regardless as well but I believe you are exempt if you are pregnant. I didn't know nursing also.

Re: Catholic girls and lent

Due to my gestational diabetes, meat is my free food without carbs, so I can't cut it completely from my diet each day.

I'll be giving up sweets, though, since I can't eat them anyways.Chat Icon

Re: Catholic girls and lent

I thought we were just exempt from fasting tomorrow and good friday. I'm not going to eat meat, but I'm not a crazy meat eater anyway.

I plan to skip meat on Ash Wed & Fridays during lent.

I like beans and lentils, which are high in protein, so I plan to eat a lot of Minestrone Soup, Lentil Soup, Amy's Frozen all natural Cheddar Cheese Burritos (they are meat free). Along with grilled cheese, pasta, pizza etc.

Re: Catholic girls and lent

I'm giving up meat tomorrow and on Fridays, but not fasting. On Fridays, I have fish for lunch and pizza for dinner usually anyway, and tomorrow I'm having a tuna fish sandwich. DH yelled at me, but you can have it once a week, and I've only had once in 9 weeks.

ETA: I've been meat averse lately anyway.

DH laughs at me because he says I only crave tuna when I am pregnant!!!! But Tuna once in a while is totally fine!!!!

When Pregnant with DS I used to make DH take me to Friendlys for a Tuna melt!!!

Re: Catholic girls and lent

We are excempt from fasting during Lent. I think the idea is that we're already sacrificing our bodies to grow life. That said, I won't go crazy gorging myself but I won't go out of my way to avoid meat if I want it tomorrow or on Fridays.

Fortunately all Chat Icon seems to want is sweets so I think we'll be OK!!
