Preference for Cruise lines?

This is inspired by Ophelia who mentioned she won't cruise on Carnival.

Just curious, what cruise lines will you or won't you cruise with? And why?

I won't cruise on Norwegian because I hear from friends that the food is mediocre and they can run out of food.

I will cruise on Princess and RCCL. Love Princess cruiseline personal choice dining option. Who wants to dine with total strangers at set times? Also heard good things about RCCL and Disney - both are more expensive but have great ships and activities.

Re: Preference for Cruise lines?

Carnival. I've only ever been on a Carnival cruise, 4 of them I think now, and I've had a blast on all of them. Very laid back and a young crowd, kid friendly.

My mom went on a Royal Caribbean cruise and said that the shows were not as good (that could have been the particular cruise too though). She said she enjoyed Carnival more.

Re: Preference for Cruise lines?

I only cruise Celebrity. I have done quite a few cruises with them. I prefer the traditional style of cruising then the free styling cruise.

Celebrity is also a little more of an older crowd so there aren't many kids on there.

Ive been on carnival, princess and celebrity. We LOVED Celebrity, def our favorite. I would sail on carnival again but only if it was one of their new ships. We didnt like Princess though so we would probably try to avoid that line in the future.

Re: Preference for Cruise lines?

I have gone on 3 cruise lines (one not even in service anymore-lol!!).
The other two: RCCL and NCL

I felt NCL did not have enough food. I like to snack inbetween meals. Nothing big, a cookie, peice of cake, etc. They didn't have much of that.

Same here, my last cruise was RCL and if I book again, I'd do RCL. My friends and some acquaintances have tried Norwegian, Carnival and RCL and all advised RCL was the more enjoyable experience. If I couldn't do RCL, I'd look into Celebrity or Princess.

I deleted what I originally said.

Everyone has their favorites from what they have experienced or from what they have heard from others.

Do your own research on Cruise Boards and go with what kind of people you want to be around.

I wouldn't go on carnival. The only people I have met who like that line are on these boards. IRL - everyone I know who sailed on the line hated it. Based on their stories I have no desire to sail on their line.

I love Celebrity. But I'm not sure I would go with young children on that line - maybe when the girls are older or as adults only cruise.

We have had 2 good Princess cruises. I would definitely sail with them again.

I am definitely interested in going on RCCL and Disney. Those appeal to us more esp b.c they tend to be more family friendly - but still have what we are looking for.

I did one NCL -cruise many years ago (1st cruise) had an okay time - but then when we went on Celebrity - realized that there was no comparison at that time. I would seriously have to think about whether I would sail with them again. But after hearing very mediocre reviews from people I know I'm not sure if I would or would not consider them - with 3 or 4 other choices there would have to be something really special to get me to consider it.

Re: Preference for Cruise lines?

We have done two cruises, both on NCL. I loved them. We both liked the freestyle nature, especially for dining. I don't want to be assigned a time and place for eating and I don't like to be forced to sit with strangers.

I took a Carnival cruise for my first cruise and if it wasn't for my DH wanting to take a cruise I would never go on another. LOl HATED Carnival....it was like being on a floating circus.

Anyway, we have done 3 Princess cruises and LOVED them all. We are going on a 2 week one in October to Hawaii.

Princess works great for us, no kids and not big partiers.

I am not going to say rude things about other cruielines because I don't want to hurt people's feelings like I know they haveChat Icon

We love Carnival. Chat Icon

We love the ship, the people are all ages and very friendly, leaving out of NY, the kids club, and the prices. We can get the biggest room they have for a great price and get VIP Status. That's why we love CarnivalChat Icon

6 Carnival cruises and I've loved every single one. I love just about everything about it. I wouldn't mind trying other cruiselines but when I compare the costs, I opt for Carnival every time.

Re: Preference for Cruise lines?

I don't really have a preference. I go with whatever line has a better deal on the ports I want to visit. My 1st cruise was with rccl. We got a great deal on it 7 years ago and haven't been on since since they are so much more expensive these days. We tend to cruise with carnival and NCL. And again it's based on the ports and price. We have an NCL scheduled for may this yr. Amazing deal on a 10 day cruise from NYC visiting ports that you rarely get to go to when leaving from NYC so we jumped on it. Wouldn't have cared what cruise line though. Just happened to be NCL.

Re: Preference for Cruise lines?

We have cruised Carnival and Disney, we are trying NCL this summer. I think each line is unique in its own way and would not hesitate to sail Carnival againChat Icon

My inlaws are frequent cruisers on a variety of lines and although they like certain lines a little more than others, they seem to enjoy them all.

I've only cruised on RCL - and I've had great experiences with them and would definitely cruise them again.

Re: Preference for Cruise lines?

Been on Carnival, NCL and Royal Caribbean.

Carnival was fun but the ships are kinda dated, nothing special IMO.

NCL was a blast but it was my bachelorette party and only for 1 night so we made the best of it. Food was awful.

Royal Caribbean was the best! So much to do, activities galore, food was excellent, friendly staff, beautiful ships. DH says he will only cruise with royal since then... i'm open to anything but would prefer royal too.

Oh my! I don't think I could handle that! Chat Icon I loved my late afternoon lemonade & cookie on RCCL when we'd get back on the boat after running around all day.

I think it really depends on what you are looking for & that may change at various points in your life.

I haven't been on Carnival, but it seems like a fun one for maybe a college spring break trip or something like that. I think some people with kids like it too, because it's not super fancy or stuffy & it's not super expensive.

I have been on RCCL twice. It was great for a HM & anniversary. It's a good mid-level cruise & could appeal to a lot of different types of cruisers.

People we met there really liked Disney. I have no interest in anything Disney related, but I see how it could be great for a family. This family really liked the private island stop.

We are going on Princess for the 1st time this year. My in-laws have been before & liked it. I am curious to see how it is different than RCCL.

Was this recently? We went on the jewel and there was 13 restaurants one was a 24 hour dinner with the best wings. I found there was so much food we couldn't decide where to eat.

2008. It wasn't more about the meals but inbetween like 3pm and later at night. There was ONE place, The Blue Lagoon and it was always packed and the service was horrible because there was no other place to go except room service.

Re: Preference for Cruise lines?

I've been on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Holland and NCL. Of those I wouldnt do Carnival again until I had kids and even then it would still be my last choice.

I love love love Princess and it is always my first choice. Holland was nice but a much older crowd, I even heard people complaining at one point that they thought children should be banned from the ship Chat Icon!!

NCL was a lot of fun and had the best shows my only complaint was that the main restaurant food wasnt as good as the pay for restaurants. They pay restaurants were cheap but it just seemed a little bit of gimmick that they were soo superior in taste. Royal was fun too but I dont think the food is as good as Princess, Holland or NCL.
