Re: talk to me about maternity leave...
2 weeks at full pay, 4 weeks at 60% (6 weeks at 60% if it's a C-Section), then the remaining 6 weeks (or 4 weeks) unpaid. I can use my personal/vaca/floating holidays during those unpaid weeks to recoup some money. I plan on using 5/10 days of vaca and 5/5 floaters, so will likely be unpaid for a full month. I need to hold on to some of my time because we have to use vaca for snow days in the winter, and our personal time renews with anniversary of employment, not calendar year, which for me is june 21st, and my due date is 7/4, so pretty much would have to go a full year with no time left in the bank if I used it all for leave.

Re: talk to me about maternity leave...
Our policy is 12 weeks unpaid. I can get disability for 8 weeks since I'll be a c-section, but the amount of money you're paid is laughable. I have 4 weeks of paid time off that I'll be taking, so only 8 weeks will be unpaid.

Re: talk to me about maternity leave...
thanks everyone. my thing about teachers wasnt meant to offend at all- i was just looking for more people with professions in businesses. with summers and even the most minuscule of holidays off.. i question every day why i didnt become a teacher (also cause i think i would like it - not JUST for the time off )..
im still not quite sure how to go about the conversation with my boss. from all of your responses it seems like 6w is short but at least 3 being fully paid is good.. im so unhappy about it though and i dread the day i have to go back to work after is born and i am just for every extra minute i can get at home

Re: talk to me about maternity leave...
I work for an ad agency. I have FMLA, but all that means to ME is, the co. can't give away my job for 12 weeks. FMLA is for job protection (from what I learned) and has nothing to do with if you're paid or not.
So, I'm entitled by NYS to take 12 weeks.
the $$ part- what a crock! I had to file for short term disability. If this is all the $ I would get, it's $170 per pay check. Who in their right mind came up with this????? My co. does what they call salary continuance. That is, they'll supplement the balance of my salary on top of the $170 so I don't loose any money. I got approved by the short term disability co. for 6 weeks (even though I had a c/section). I'll be paid my full salary for 6 weeks. After that, I can take the other 6 weeks @ no pay, or use some vacation time etc.
I hope you can come to a good place with your bosses/co.

Re: talk to me about maternity leave...
I work for a very large firm which I think is otherwise lacking a family oriented, work-life balance environment but we do get 6 weeks paid and 8 weeks paid for a C section.
At my firm it depends on your level. I have been there for almost 10 years so I get the 6 weeks with is the most they offer.
I also have to sign something stating that if I dont come back for 6 months after giving birth I will have to repay them a pro-rata portion of the 6 weeks.
If I want to resign I have to provide them with 2 months notice because I signed an agreement when I got a promotion. That is annoying b/c if you find another job who is really going to wait 2 months for you?
I plan on using all of my vacation time after the 6 weeks paid and then FMLA or unpaid so I can have 4 - 5 months off.
Good luck!!

6 weeks paid, 6 weeks unpaid, so basically 12 weeks at 1/2 pay.
pretty much the same...8 weeks paid if its a c-section. 6 weeks additional UNPAID...classifed as "baby bonding time". the 6 weeks paid is paid 60% by STD and 40% by NYS. paperwork is filed through HR within the month of your EDD. My health insurance still gets deducted th efirst 6 weeks when im still pulling a paycheck. if i take the weeks after that, i will get a bill for my health insurance dues.

Re: talk to me about maternity leave...
My maternity leave is 3 months full pay and a option of taking additional 3 months (total of 6 months) at partial pay. My company is a large French based company but has a US division headquarter here in NYC.

Re: talk to me about maternity leave...
I get 12 weeks paid plus whatever vacation/sick days I haven't used for the year - which will be about another 4 weeks paid. I also can take some unpaid leave - I think another 6 weeks or so but I am not sure.
But, I should add that I am an attorney at a law firm and this policy only is for the attorneys. Our support staff does not get any paid maternity leave, though I think they are looking to change that.
