Re: I need a nice way of saying this...

One of the reasons I didn't send my DD to Tutor Time was because I couldn't bring in my own food. I read their menu, and while all the food groups were represented, I didn't want my 18 month old eating bologna.
I have my DD at a center that provides snacks but not meals, and permits parents to provide their own snacks if they chose. Everyday I send DD w/ organic yogurt and fresh fruit (or applesauce if I don't have fruit for some reason) and an organic lunch. If I send cookies, I send organic cookies etc.
I would tell the provider you want your child to eat the food you provide <period>.
gunna try. and eek on the bologna.
and she did make me sign a "food-program" thingy yesterday. going to ask for a copy of that...

Sorry, but this is unreasonable... especially when the OP stated that she was told from the beginning that there is a meal plan and outside food is not to be brought in. It's not OK to NOW turn around and say 'You will serve my child the food I send and that's that'. If the provider is part of a meal plan, then it should be meeting USDA guidelines. I hate to sound like the b*tch, but muffins and puffs are not deadly foods. Granted they are not as healthy as some other choices, but you either place your child in a program that allows you to bring your own food/follows a more organic plan OR your child eats what is served at daycare and you serve the most healthy/organic options you can at home. And i'm not being snarky, but the whole 'You will eat what I provide <period>' attitude prob wouldnt go over with a provider.

now I am starting to think it's a reimbursement issue. could that be it? that the program won't reimburse her for your son if you are sending in food?
is that also why she makes them herself?
As far as reimbursement, not only would the provider not be reimbursed for her son, but would not be reimbursed for any of the meals given to any of the children at all on that day....
FWIW, the reimbursement for meals and snacks are negilgable so I don't think that would be the reason...
There are 2 tier levels ( depending on what area you live in), but for instance my area is as follows:
Breakfast- .44 Snack - .18 Lunch- 1.34

Is this an at home daycare program ?
The reason I ask is because if she participates in the CACFP ( Child & Adult Care Food Program) , we ( I am a licensed in-home provider myself) are not "allowed" for parents to provide any meal components , with the exception of infant formula or breast milk...
She is required to provide and submit on a monthly basis, the menu that was served to the CACFP in order to get partial reimbursement ...
Though we are "allowed" to give the occasional sweets, it is frowned upon on a daily basis...We also have monitors that stop in to observe mealtimes ....
I have been out of the circuit for a bit ( since I am on an extended maternity leave) , but am still licensed- Not sure if anything has changed in regard to providing organic milk to children ( as this has become bigger in the last few years)
If the "program" she is referring to is the CACFP, here is a link that may help you ..If not, sorry for my ramblings- LOL
http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/care/
and a copy of the menu requirements:
http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/care/ProgramBasics/Meals/Meal_Patterns.htm
if you have concerns about the food being given to your child, definitely speak to the provider. i would also recommend calling the child care council asap to speak to the CACFP supervisor. what county are you in?
i have very close connections in the CCC in nassau and suffolk. If you need any help, please let me know.

Re: I need a nice way of saying this...
ok...i spoke to the CACFP in nassau....
cookies and muffins should be no more than 2x week. muffins can't be substituted for bread (ie. given at lunch in place of a grain).
lunch and dinner must have 5 components: grain, protein, milk, vegs and fruit.
juice 1x day is optional.
the childcare provider must be the one to provide special food to a child who is on a special diet. if the parent sends in the food, then the provider can not participate at all in the CACFP program, which is probably why she does not want parents sending in food.
ALSO, if you see paint chips...you MUST report them immediately to licensing. it is a hazard and violation.
if you need any more info, let me know. i have a "direct line"! LOL
