new dr and LOVENOX-UPDATE

LOVED my new Dr yesterday. I know some girls see him (DR. Clifford Goldstein). He was great and I feel so much better at this practice already!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got to see my baby and hear the heartbeat! I'm 8 weeks 2 days and my official due date is September 15!!

Im going to start Lovenox tonight. Any tips would be great. I thought they would SHOW us how to do it, but I have to pick it up from the pharm tonight after 8. Maybe the pharm will show us tonight? Did your drs show you how to do it? I've looked it up and read a lot online, but would love some tips from you ladies who take it.

Does everyone inject it into their stomach? That makes me nervous. LOL Can I inject into my thigh or butt?

Is the sting/burn really that bad?

I'm so scared!!!!!!

UPDATE: THANK you for all the tips! I was soooo scared last night. Starting crying and freaking out a bit, but my husband was GREAT. He did it so slow and it really wasn't that bad. It stung/burned a little, mostly after the shot, but definitely not as bad as I thought.

It is bruised this morning. Does that get better or does everyone have bruises all over their tummy?

Thanks again, ladies.

I'm so happy you love him!

I have no advice but yay for another baby born September 15th (my birthday)

I would definitely ask the pharmacist tonight but first call the office and ask the best way to administer it, I'm sure the nurses would be happy to help you.

Thank you! He is awesome! I definitely feel like I will be in good hands there. :)

Will call the nurse today and ask.

So many people have Sept 15 as a birthday. My husband's nephew...my little cousin...my SIL's mother. so funny if our LO is actually born on that day.

Re: new dr and LOVENOX

I always put it in my belly area - but more to the side, you want to stay away from the belly button.
Pinch your skin, inject the lovenox, and then hold it for 30sec-min afterwards.
Some people like to ice it first, but I've never done that.
It does burn a little and can leave some nasty bruises. Whatever you do, don't rub the area after you inject, that will leave you with big ugly bruises for sure!

Thank you. Do you alternate sides?

Where do you dispose the needles afterwards? Do they give you something to put them in to throw it out safely?

Re: new dr and LOVENOX

Lovenox is almost always injected into the belly area. Love handles and anywhere you have fat is best. Pinch a large area of fat and inject the needle, now some ppl do it at an angle (which is what you should do) I find it less painful when the needle is facing straight down. Afterwards leave the needle in for up to 30 seconds. Don't be freaked out if there is blood coming out when you take the needle out, which just means you hit a muscle but it's not harmful in any way! Be prepared that it might be very painful, especially at first and you may bruise pretty badly but it'll get better with time. Always alternate sides every day and try to find new areas to inject, if you do it all in one spot you'll bruise more. Oh there might also be a bump under the skin at the injection site, that’s ok too.
HTH and there are a few good explanatory videos on Youtube. Good luck girl!!!

I do alternate sides, but I actually find that it hurts less in my left side, so I do it more frequently there.

As for the needles - I use one of those big pretzel jars. I've also used an old cat litter container.
They have a safety on them so when you're done injecting, you push the syringe down until the safety pops out and covers the needle.

Re: new dr and LOVENOX

The stomach area is the best spot to do them. I felt weird about it as well and asked my OBGYN but she said it's totally fine and that most people do them in their stomach throughout their whole pregnancy. She said the needle is so short that even in the thinnest of people, it wouldn't be anywhere near the baby.

For me some spots/shots hurt more than others. Sometimes it doesn't hurt at all but then other times it really stings a lot. It definitely hurts less when you inject it into a fleshy spot that you can get a good pinch of!

Good Luck - the shots get much easier and they barely bother me at all anymore!

Glad it went well Chat Icon

When I first started using Lovenox I did have some brusing in the area of where I had injected. I haven't really had any bruising in a few months now.

I did mine in my stomach in the beginning then I started to bruise so I moved to my love handle which was great...no discomfort and no brusing!

good luck!
