What are your thoughts on bumpers
Who's doing one? Who's not getting one? Who's getting one, but not using it while the baby is in the crib? Thoughts?

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
Had it with DS. Used it with DS until he was probably around 10 months and pulling to standing. At around that age he was also obsessed with tags so I didn't want him pulling and the strings, getting stuck, etc.
Planning on same this time.

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
I wanted them. I think once the baby gets bigger and moves around it could prevent them from hitting their head on the bars. All of my friends used them, but my husband is a big no way. I can tell he won't budge on this at all, so no bumpers for us.

Will use the bumper that comes with our crib set. Have known plenty of people who use them with no issues...I'm fine with it.

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
I have one on the crib now - not sure if I'll keep it or not. In my Childbirth Class they said that the 6 tie ones are the best because they don't leave big gaps or whatever. That's the kind I have, so maybe I'll leave it. Still deciding.

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
I'm planning on using htem. Know lots of people who have and no one has had any issues with them. If the baby moves around a lot, I will think about taking them out.

I'm still debating. We just started the registry and I put a breathable bumper on there. I am still considering a bedding set though.

bumpers increase the risk of SIDs- because if the baby breathes against it - they breath there own carbon dioxide
i did not have bumpers in my crib - but i did not register for a bedding set - i tried breathable bumpers but they did not fit my crib
my ds is 16 months and never had a bruise from the crib though

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
Emmy is 13months and this is how it worked for us....I had them until she was maybe 5months and took them out when she started rolling and moving in her sleep. I went in and found her face buried in a bumper. She was fine but it scared me. Out they came. For 2wks she would wake up AT LEAST 4 times a night screaming because her legs or arms were stuck out of the crib. I bought a breathable bumper and they are still on. She LOVES them and when I tried taking them out 2 nights ago she woke up screaming because.....she was stuck again. If I could do it again I would buy the breahable bumpers, 4sheets, and a knit or homemade afghan from ETSY.com as her "bedding set". After 4 months the only part of her set we used was gone. It was such a waste of $200.00

Depends who you ask.. Some say it increases the chance for SIDS. I say how can you say that if you don't know WHAT causes SIDS. My advise is listen to all the info and make a decision that works for YOU. Like I said I did bumpers and now do breathable bumpers. I do have a fan in her room, and we keep it cooler, about 68 at night. I gave her a blanket at 10mon and she loves it, but she was also ready for it. SIDS advice is that, just advice. NOBODY knows what, or how it happens. MANY have ideas and think they know, but again, NOBODY can prove anything that is why it is a death of unknown cause or reason. Sorry that's just my
I have been to 2 SIDS deaths in my career and in both there were no bumpers, the baby was under 3months, not sick, was in a non-smoking home, had a fan and were not co-sleeping. The ONLY thing I will NEVER EVER EVER allow or do is co-sleep with DD. The day before she was born my DH went to a clal where a 4month old was smothered by his sleeping father, and just 2wks ago I had a call where a 13month old was smothered by it's father. I DO NOT support co-sleeping in the same bed, becasue I HAVE seen children die because of it.

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
Used them from day 1 w/ Sean -
Actually ended up NEEDING them b/c he's a corner sleeper w/ his face smushed up against the bumpers - and GASP, on his belly !! He's slept that way since he could roll onto his belly so there was no stopping him -
He's fine.
I'll use them w/ this guy too -

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
I use breatable bumpers, however, I do not think the regular bumpers would have been a problem with MY DS.
What I do like about the breathable pumpers is that I can easily lift the mattress up, change the sheet, put the mattress back down and not have to remove the bumpers (sometimes I just have to slide the bumpers back up).
I almost wish I didnt even bother registering for bedding because I feel guilty for not using the bumpers or blanket (DS uses a knitted blanket only). The only thing we use were the crib sheet that came with it and the valance.

I'm still on the fence. I may just get breathable ones to avoid the risk altogether. I wanted bedding though because I loved the theme!

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
I currently use the breathable bumpers for my DS, but he didn't go into his crib until he was 4 months old and at that time he already rolled front to back and back to front. Without them their though he kept sticking his arms and legs out of the slats of the crib and getting stuck.
ETA...we'll probably do the same for #2.

Re: What are your thoughts on bumpers
I have the bumpers in DD crib. I had them out for awhile and then she bumped her head on the rails so I put them back in. Her favorite thing to do in the morning is push them down or pull them up and call the dogs into her room. She loves to pet them through the rails.
