Another silly pregnancy question....
DH and I took lamaze this weekend and the class was definitely educational and the tour of the hospital and explanation of all the steps definitely helped us as first time parents on what to expect.
So, during the course, they brought up the mother's water breaking and that it could happen anywhere/anytime...
My question....what do you put on your bed, etc to help protect it? We have a mattress cover, but not sure if it would work.

Re: Another silly pregnancy question....
You can buy weewee pads and keep that on your bed. That's what the hospital uses once you give birth to keep the sheets clean of blood and other discharge.
I didn't use anything. Never even thought about it actually. And I got lucky...my water broke while I was peeing!

OMG, wee wee pads ... pregnancy and childbirth really strip you of any sense of dignity, don't they?
Sorry OP, I'm not BTDT but I'm interested in the responses as well ...

Re: Another silly pregnancy question....
We recently bought a new mattress and we had the choice of a water resistant or a water proof mattress pad. This is one of the reasons we picked the water proof one. Maybe you can get a wter proof pad for cheap. I'm not sure if they're expensive or not... I'm also not sure, but maybe there's a better chance of water breaking while standing because of the pressure ??

I think I read in "What to Expect" that your water breaking isn't usually a huge mess unless you are laying down. As a side note though, since I refused to use "wee wee pads" for my dog's training, I don't plan on using them for myself .I've been putting an old blanket on top of my fitted sheets as a just-in-case method, and we also have a mattress pad.

So I sit on the couch with a blanket under me. I have a horrible case of sneeze pees.
The other night I was was exhausted after cooking and eating dinner. My DH keeps telling me to go rest. I keep on refusing. So he gets fed up and yells "Would you stop suffering and just go lie on the couch on your wee wee pad?"
I almost peed myself.

Then the wee wee pad really would have come in handy!!!

The nurse in our lamaze class explained how much water there was to come out and suggested we place protection in the bed/car starting at around 36/37 weeks as a precaution. She advised that a little may come out, but that a lot could also come out. I want to err on the side of caution.

Re: Another silly pregnancy question....
Weewee pad was just a suggestion, oy vey. And while you may choose not to use them now, you will have no choice once you are in the hospital.
They use these things called underpads, essentially, a weewee pad, and there is no way around it.

So get over your pride now

Re: Another silly pregnancy question....
i slept with a towel under me once i hit 37 weeks.
After my water broke @ 38 weeks (not in bed - i was in the Dr's office), I realize that that 1 towel wouldn't have done squat if my water broke in bed.

Re: Another silly pregnancy question....
We put a plastic mattress cover on our bed during my last pregnancy. It's great for when the baby spits up on your bed too.

If you are laying down its a gush... if you are standing its not bc the babies head acts as a cork.

You have no idea.... Most people say that fall in love with their DH all over again because they are able to see what they made together... NOPE, I fell in love with my DH all over again because he didn't run from the room screaming and he didn't make fun of me when I couldn't bend over and pull up my own underwear and pants.
But, I had a scheduled section, so I have no insight to offer as far as water breaking goes.
