althouhg I have been thinking about this....do our views of our MIL's change once we have a son? can we understand them a little better now?
I feel like. I used to tell me MIL she was nuts b/c she still dotes on DH and BIL. but now, I totally get it. she just LOVES them. so much.
It definitely has in my case. Not with my DH because my MIL was wonderful to me and always treated me like a daughter, but with my ex-bf who was a HUGE momma's boy and whose mother was SO overbearing. I used to hate the woman and it would nauseate me to see how co-dependent they were. By no means do I want to be that overbearing with my DS and his future wife but I *do* understand it a little more now that I am a mom. I hope to be more like this:

My MIL has 3 boys...she has told each one of them that when they get married their wife and kids are their family and they come first.
Love her for that She's the kind of person where if DH doesn't agree with me she'll tell him he's wrong..even if his decision is in her favor.
But with that said...her boys are still her boys. She may not be number one in their lives but she is never out of their thoughts. They love her.
I hope this is how it is with my boys.

Re: Boy Mommy's
I've heard it. I believe it for some families. Not for all. I can only hope we do a good enough job raising Jeremy that he knows how to treat a woman both before and after he marries her. IMO, the woman you share your bed with is the woman who comes first. I've seen many marriages struggle over this. As much as I may not like it, I'm going to have to suck it up and deal.

I think some of the sayings are open to varied interpretations. I wouldn't take it too seriously.
I looked Jeremy in the eye once and told him if he didn't keep his schmeckle in his pants and knocked a girl up before he was old enough to handle it, he better be ready to go out on his arse because I am not paying for his mistakes

Re: Boy Mommy's
people say it to me all the time, I hate it , but I do think it's true daughters always seem closer to their moms. all the moms I know that have older sons don't really talk with them all that much . I have 2 boys so only time will tell.

Re: Boy Mommy's
This saying makes me SO sad because in my family, it happens to be true
In DH's family it's not, so I'm hoping my DS will be like his daddy. DH speaks to his mom pretty often and sees her pretty often as well. He loves her and respects her. I hope my DS will be like that too when he's grown and married.
