My MIL says it all the time Chat Icon

I think it's more to do with the different type of relationships. I think sons are more likely to move away with their family than daughters, they're closer with the mom when they get older, etc. I agree with the PP, the relationship is a little different.

Re: Boy Mommy's

It's not true. My DH still talks to his mom everyday. She is a big part of our lives. She got the daughter she never had.

My MIL has 3 boys...she has told each one of them that when they get married their wife and kids are their family and they come first.

Love her for that Chat Icon She's the kind of person where if DH doesn't agree with me she'll tell him he's wrong..even if his decision is in her favor.

But with that said...her boys are still her boys. Chat Icon She may not be number one in their lives but she is never out of their thoughts. They love her.

I hope this is how it is with my boys.

That saying makes me sad. My own parents have told me that and have said I should have more kids to try for a Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have a DS and I really think/hope that we will be close even when he is grown up, though I do agree that the mother-son relationship is typically different than mother-daughter.

I hate those sayings.

yeah i heard it from my MIL when my husband "disobeyed her wishes" over something ridiculous that didn't have anything to do with her (as a 27 yr old, married father.) Given the source, i can only Chat Icon.

I will be PROUD of my son when he marries and takes care of a spouse, starts a family, etc... it'll prove I raised him right.

eta: the very same woman also said that she was going to wear black on my wedding day because she was losing her little boy. Chat Icon

Are we related? I actually changed my BMW gowns to black b/c she threatened to wear her funeral dress. Chat Icon

Re: Boy Mommy's

I have heard it, but I don't buy it. My DH has a great relationship with his parents, largely because I support and encourage that. Family is the most important thing in the world. And don't get me wrong, I have wonderful in-laws, but they are far from perfect. I'm hoping when my boys get older that I can have a good relationship with their girlfriends/wives and won't have to worry about the "taking" my son away.

My DH talks to my MIL almost every day! Even if it's just a quick "Hello"!

I don't believe the saying at all. Even when my brother got married, he'd call my mom every night at 10PM! Just to say "Hi" and see how her day went!

I hate that saying. You never know what the future holds, regardless of the sex of your children. I will do my best to make sure I'm a good mother, and a great MIL someday. That's all I can do!

Same here!

Dh's cousin believed in this saying and was truly upset when her 3rd try for a girl was another boy.

Re: Boy Mommy's

I hate sayings like that. My DS is such a mommies boy. I really hope and pray that when he's older (after getting married, etc) that we will still be a BIG part of his life. I remember when I was pregnant and found out it was a girl, so many people made the comment that the OP said. It made me so sad b/c I felt like they were saying just b/c I had a girl now, my son can grow up and do what he wanted Chat Icon he's my little baby and hopefully we will raise him to want to still call and visit and be close to us down the road (the same with my daughter).
Honestly in general I hate all stereotypical comments. I constantly get the comments about how hard having a teenage girl is and how boys are so much easier and listen better and dont get into the kind of trouble girls do in thier teens. I think it's the individual not the gender

Exactly. Your relationship with your kids is a direct result of how you raise them and how you foster those relationships.

Re: Boy Mommy's

It's a saying in quotes that someone wrote on a plaque or a card. Does not define the life and relationship between my mom and [married] brother and will not define my life and relationship with my son.

Re: Boy Mommy's

I don't pay attention to those sayings.

I look at my DH and see a man that is still close to his mom and has always been a great son.

My SIL however...she is just not close with her mom. At all. My MIL has a much closer relationship with her son but not in a creepy way, lol. We are great friends and I am so thankful for that!!

I pray my boys will be as good to me as their dad is to his mom...if they follow his example, i have nothing to worry about! And I hope they find great women to marry!!

I can kinda understand the statement, because since I have had children I am much closer to my mom and my dad.

I will be PROUD of my sons when they marry and start familes, etc... it'll prove we raised them right.

Also, I think this is the time concentrate on Phil and I. We plan on traveling and having fun and being proud of the children we raised.

Re: Boy Mommy's

i've heard it. in the case of DH i wish it were true.
for my own son, we'll see.
i certainly hope i'm not as suffocating as my MIL but i doubt a wife can ever replace a mother. if a boy has the same relationship with his wife as he does with his mom, then i think there's something strange there
