Short Term Disability ??
I applied in December (open enrollment), and I was approved as of Jan 1st.
I got my BFP on Jan 11th (13 DPO).
Since due date calculators count from last period (dec 9th), I'm 7 weeks.
Is this pregnancy going to count as a "pre-existing condition" and I won't be covered?
My job does not pay maternity leave.

Re: Short Term Disability ??
one of the only good things to come out of obamacare is that insurance companies can't deny anyone based on pre-existing conditions (that's why everyone's premiums, etc are so high now).
i don't know if being pregnant would be considered a pre-existing condition, but it shouldn't matter now b/c of obamacare.
you could call your ins co and find out...

Re: Short Term Disability ??
My friend was in a similar situation and, for her, they considered the pregnancy to have "started" at her first doctor's appointment that confirmed it. I think you should be fine Hope this helps

Re: Short Term Disability ??
I just signed up for this as well. Unfortunately my employer doesn't offer a paid maternity leave either. If I remember correctly you cannot have a pre-existing condition within a year of enrollment. My open enrollment was back in Sept. Your disability wouldn't start until you gave birth, so for me if the disability started Jan. 1, 2011 I would have to give birth after Jan 1 2012, which means I can't get prego until April 2011. To me it sounds like you won't be able to qualify. However, I would call your provider to double check. Also, I think short term disability is different than health care insurance under the Obamacare. Again, I would confirm all of this. Fingers crossed for you!!
