Cheapest way to get last minute flight

It looks like I may have to get a flight out to Arizona in the next few days b/c my grandma is most likely dying from pneumonia. Whats the cheapest way to go about getting a last minute flight?

A lot of airlines have special fares for bereavement but they aren't necessarily cheaper.

What I did was used my flyer miles for my step mother to come down for her sister's funeral. If I didn't have enough, I could be 'gifted' from others the milage to get to the number I needed.

Keep trying Southwest Airline site for some discounts, etc.

What airport would you need to fly into? Does it matter which you leave from here? Do you have to leave and come back on specific dates? Maybe we can help you search..

I tried putting in from JFK to Phoenix from tomorrow to Sunday just to see what prices were like, seemed to mostly be $700 round trip. It was more expensive out of Islip.

go to travelzoo and so a super search. It'll give you a list of all the flights listing them by the least expensive.

Just a FYI...JetBlue does not offer bereavement discounts. I called their customer service when my grandmother passed and they stated since they are already a discount airline, they don't offer bereavement discounts.

Although, Delta, USAir, etc do.

My prayers are with you! I know this isn't easy when you live so far away!

I would call the airline and ask if they have bereavement rates.

You can save up to 40% on flights if you "bid" on a flight with priceline. The only thing is you have to be very fleixble about your flight times, since you will have no control over what time you flight leaves or arrives on the day you pick to fly on - here's the wording on their site

Your exact flights and times will be shown to you once your purchase is complete. Although we always look for non-stop flights first, priceline flights may make up to one connection each way. If you are wiling to deal with all of that, you could probably save a good amount on your flight.

Priceline.com or Hotwire.com. Also, if you have a friend/family member who has miles, they might be able to get a ticket for you.

some airlines have bereavement fairs- you can try & call, although when my grandfather died it was $500 to get to Tampa last minute
