Intro and breast feeding question

Hi girls! Just wanted to introduce myself. My twins were born 11 days ago. Their names are Jack and Avery. I look forward to posting here

Here is my first question of I am sure many!

My twins were in the NICU and just came home yesterday. While they were there the nurses had to monitor exactly how much they were eating so i was primarily pumping with limited breastfeeding here and there.

Now that they are home i am trying to increase the amount of time they are nursing. Right now they are nursing for 10 min each and then i supplement with a bottle that I pumped. I am trying to get them to soley nurse bc right now with nursing, a bottle and then pumping I am getting very little sleep.

How long should they be nursing for? I just want to make sure I am giving them enough.

congratulations!!! welcome to mommyhood, it's simply amazing! (tired, but amazing!)

my DD would nurse for 15mins one side only. each baby nurses for various lengths of time, but many will say, and it's true, as long as they are having a sufficient number of dirty diapers you are okay. i *think* it's 2-3 poopy diapers and 6-8 pee diapers.

congrats to you!

They should be actively sucking for 10-15 min on each breast in the beginning...this means that if they are comfort sucking that doesn't count...My DCs would fall asleep at the breast so we would have to wake them, undress then, tickle feet or cheek, etc!

to "count" it as active sucking...listen and feel behind their neck and you will feel them swallow every couple of sucks!

see if you can try this without the bottle after...so they dont start to prefer that instead!
