DD had her first Dr appointment yesterday and now Im so worried
While the pediatrician was examining her yesterday he pointed out to us that she has a small dimple between the crack of her butt. He didnt seem concerned at all and just said that it could pose a problem with her spine later in life and we will watch it. Well, I went home yesterday and googled it (bad idea) and I found out that it is a sacral dimple and apparently it may be a sign of spina bifida. Of course Im freaking out! Does anyone have any experience with this? Im so upset and I dont understand why the pediatrician in the hospital never mentioned this. She said she was perfect

Do a search on here for sacral dimple. I recall a lot of kids having them & they were fine.

sometimes google is the worst thing! I googled SMA when I tested as a carrier when I was pregnant and was a mess for a good two weeks until we got DH's blood results! I would think the doctor would seem more concerned if it was really bad and I'm sure its not as bad as you are thinking right now and your baby girl is perfect!

both my boys have it & our ped told us that as long as its closed (which ours is), there is nothing to worry about. Just an addede places to make sure is super clean...

As long as it's closed it should be fine. Call up your ped's office and ask them to explain it to you. They can and should be able to expalin to you everything and then you'll feel sooo much better about it.

Thank you girls. My ped didnt seem concerned and the ped that my ob recommended that came to see her in the hospital never mentioned it at all so hopefully we will watch it and it will be nothing.

DS has it and so does DH. Our Pedi saw it when I had him and they did an ultrasound of his sacrum while we were in the hospital. It was completely closed and he has developed just fine.
