Re: Phoenix and Tucson Hotels?

Just a word of advice, when you book for Phoenix, don't stay downtown unless you're going on a business trip. DH and I made the mistake of doing that, thinking we'd be right where all the action is - not so much. "Downtown" is mostly a business district and it empties out at night. We were told after the fact that Scottsdale or Mesa would've been a better choice for things to do.

Do u need a car then to get into Phoenix downtown? It is business/personal - DH will be on business, but I will be going around with DS all day so need places to go.

We loved Scottsdale and stayed at the Doubletree. We didn't splurge on the hotel because we wanted to spend the $ on dining, entertainment, etc. Don't get me wrong it was a great hotel just not 5 star.

You do need a car, but it is really easy to navigate in the Phoenix area, it is on a grid system.

We stayed at the Phoenician when we went to AZ. I thought the resort was nice and rates were pretty cheap for how nice the resort was.

I thought the Hyatt was pretty nice too. We'll probably stay there the next time we visit.

We just got back from Scottsdale and stayed at the Westin Kierland Villas - the hotel and the villas are wonderful (the Villas are nice if you have DS with you - it was nice to have the kitchen and extra room).

We were there for a week and most of the sightseeing/activities we did were outside of downtown Phoenix (we didn't go there at all). We spent a lot of time at the resort, went to look at ASU campus, and went to the Phoenix Zoo.
