Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

My birthday is December 10th. I have to say I never really minded it.

No one ever gave me a Christmas/birthday gift. I always received seperate ones.

I loved being able to celebrate my birthday in school with my classmates. My mom used to make the greatest treats to bring in to school, and I always felt extra special that day! DS's birthday is July 1st, so he misses out on that, and has to celebrate his birthday at school in June with all of the other "summer birthdays". I sometimes feel bad about that!

Then again, I don't know any different! I guess it might be nice to have a birthday in June so that you have something to look forward to every 6 months, but I never really looked at it that way!

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

My birthday is January 5th and my kids is December 30th. Its a lot at one time, and then nothing else for the rest of the year, and combination gifts kinda suck, but its really not that big of a deal. I wouldn't let that hold you back from TTC - you never know what will happen. IT took me 18 months to conceive my twins, so the time of the year they were born really became irrelevant, I was just happy to have my babies.

DS's birthday is November 25. It is a busy time of year, we have a lot of family birthdays and anniversaries but at the end of the day after trying for 9 months to conceive, I didn't care when he was born, as long as I had him.

I love my winter birthday - Dec 21

EVeryone always made a big deal of it, I never minded that it was so close to Christmas.

I love the winter, so much so that I got married on Jan 12th!

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

Wow, thanks so much everyone for your responses! I totally agree that what really matters is a healthy baby. I just wanted to get a sense of whether people felt resentful about their birthday, or overwhelmed by their kids' birthdays around the holidays. I'm actually Jewish, so Christmas is not a huge deal in my family (although bigger than most Jews...). Also, I realized that although my birthday is in June, I only had an outdoor birthday twice. Weird. I could imagine doing a birthday party in the spring once or twice, though, if our hearts were set on an outdoor party. I guess when it's all you know, then there isn't anything to complain about. It definitely is a positive if it falls when there's school, unlike mine which always had to be celebrated with all the other summer birthdays. Thanks again!

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

My b-day is in June and so was my brothers. I always enjoyed having a summer b-day. DH's b-day is a week b/f christmas and he hated it as a kid. He has expressed if possible, we avoid having a due date close to a holiday. I honestly dont care. I know we will ALWAYS, whether the kid is 4 or 40 go out of our way to make their b-days a big deal. I'm VERY big on b-day celebrations!!!

my birthday is january 5th and dh's bithday is november 26. i love it that our birthdays are in the "christmas season" there's something to look forward to almost every week from dh's birthday to my birthday. its really not bad having a birthday during these few months. it;s fun because there's all that holiday buzz in the air. don't over think it, a birthday is great no matter what date it falls on Chat Icon

My birthday is January 21st and my daughter is December 6th. I never minded having a winter birthday. I always had a school party and parties at places instead of out in the yard and I never minded it! I also don't celebrate Christmas, so that can also be why I don't mind Dec/Jan birthdays. Hanukkah is just not as big of a deal..my daughter was actually my Hanukkah gift this year!

We live in Atlanta, and the middle of the summer is so brutally hot that I would pick a winter birthday over a June-Sept birthday anyday!

My birthday is January 20th and HATE it, always have. I never had a birthday party until my 25th birthday thanks to me MIL and it somehow always landed on a math test, math midterm or math final. I swore my kids would never have a winter birthday and they both have August birthdays....thanks god.

My birthday is in August and I always liked having it in the summer. Now that I have two daughters with birthdays in Oct and Dec, I will tell you that if I could do it again, I would have started TTC a few months earlier so I could have my DD#2 before Dec. I wasn't able to have a backyard 1st birthday party since it is too cold in Dec and because she was born after Dec 1st, she will have to wait an extra year to go to school. It's a pain in the asss. My bday is January 8th and while I didn't get a pool party (I still had them but not birthday ones), there were several times I had a snow day on my bday and that is not so bad.

Honestly, I like my birthday! I kind of takes the sting off of Christmas being over! Chat Icon

My DD bday is Nov and so is my brothers. I don't think he minds it.

My Bestfriends bday is Dec 22nd and she wanted a Pool party so bad, so her parents actually rented a pool at a hotel and she got her pool party & all the kids thought it was SOO cool a pool party in December! Just an idea for all the moms out there with winter kids.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

Honestly, you are totally overthinking this.

you should TTC when you are ready to... not based so much on the birth month of the child (unless you have other factors for this - like teachers). You never know what could happen.

Anyway my bday is Nov 21. i love being at the end of the year, i love being a scorpio. I never feel shafted with my bday.

I was always the youngest of my friends in school... and as i got older it's been even better. Though i was the last one to turn 21 which kind of stunk, I was also the last to turn 30 which was awesome!! and def yields the ability to tease and torment your older friends.

In HS my bday was slightly annoying, ONLY because I couldn't have an outside keg party! haha!! Chat Icon

There are good and bad to every thing out there... even months to be born in. I personally hate the heat... and the thought of a june, july or aug bday to me is not a good one.... because it means being outside in the heat....
And having said that I'm currently pregnant and due July 3rd.

You TTC when you TTC and you get pregnant when you do and the baby is born when it is. I wouldn't try too hard to control this aspect.

really? she has to wait an extra year?? I had friends in my grades who were born after dec 1st... is this a school specific thing?

I have a friend who is dec 10 and another one that's later and even one friend who is dec 24th and still in the same grade as me.... we were all born the same year... so they def weren't born the prior year.

DS birthday is December 30th. He just celebrated his 2nd. We have always made a big deal, but honestly, I feel that his options are limited because of the cold weather and a lot of people are just not free during the holidays in general to have a party.

One place actually discouraged me from booking a party with them because I could be out a lot of money if a certain number of kids didn't show.

Some people have suggested doing a "half birthday" but honestly, I could see people making comments about that......you know how people can be in general.

And yes, it is expensive with the cost of holidays plus planning for a party. We are also feeling "toyed out" in our house right about now because he got so much all at the same time, really.

This is my birthday as well...I HATE IT! Its cold, its miserable, people forget about it because of where it is and if they DO remember nobody wants to party because NYE is the next day and they want to rest up. On top of that its hard to plan a party unless the bday falls on a weekend because either xmas or new years gets in the way.

If you can avoid it, I would.

I can see dec 30th being this way.
on the other hand I have a friend who is dec 31 and he loves his nye bday... everyone is always geared up for a good celebration for his bday and new years. I don't think he's had a bad bday yet!

I agree with a lot of this. DD's birthday is Dec 20th and since the year she's been born it has snowed on her birthday or on the date originally set for her birthday party. We had to reschedule her 1st and 2nd birthday due to crazy snow storms...I feel so badly for her...My next ones bday will be in the summer and I just see it being sooooo much easier...Also with the cutoff with a lot of schools she's going to be one of the older kids in her class which I'm not so crazy about when it comes to them getting older as girls mature faster etc..

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

My birthday is December 28th and I always loved it and a pretty sweet tax deduction for my parents.

It was exactly in between xmas and NYE, so it was just a week of celebrations.

No one ever combined gifts or "stiffed" me (as I was often asked), unless I wanted something big from my parents they combined with my blessing. Not until the first year I met DH - but I regress.

Most NY schools have 12/1 as a cut off date to start school. and while my two BFFs were only a few months older than me, they were a year ahead - I didn't like that - but I loved being the oldest in my grade. The first to drive was pretty awesome.

both DC are June babies and it's nice that after the holidays are over and they want something, I will say that they have to wait for their bday. It was also nice that they lived in onsies as infants, but I have to agree with PP - all months have pros and cons, you are born when you are born.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

it is SOOOOO funny you asked this b/c i just had this conversation with DH!!!!Chat Icon

our baby was due in July and i miscarried. i was over the moon about a July birthday. my bday is in Feb and it always snowed and my parties always got messed up b/c of bad weather. we live in FL now and i thought a July bday was great b/c i was picturing pool parties and parties down at the beach (you see that a lot here)....so i thought it would be awesome...

the next time we are able TTC will bring us into Dec - April...ugh...i'm not going to hold off on trying but honestly i thought a summer baby would have been great...

i also read that when you are born can effect your personality. they say summer babies are more likely to be morning people and less depressed than winter babies. i am sooo NOT a morning person and wishy washy and born in Feb, DH is the total opposite of me and he was born in June! so it fits us Chat Icon

but i'm not putting TTC off....if we end up with a Dec, Jan, Feb baby, oh well...as long as it is healthy. but this totally crossed my mind! we just had this convo like 2 days ago!

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

my bday is the week before Thanksgiving and i don't mind it at all. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday!! It's the best time of the year IMO. I love being a Scorpio, too!

When we were TTC, one of the months I would have been due on Christmas day. At first I thought no way would I want an xmas baby. BUT I remember when that month came up (i think it was April?) we had been TTCing for 3 months at that point and I just wanted to be pregnant and have a healthy baby..I didn't care when it came. We didn't get PG that month and I was devastated. I realized how much it didn't matter to me WHEN the baby would be born, I just wanted a baby.

The only downside to having a late bday was that I was the last to turn 16, 17, 18 and 21. I would always complain to my mom about it and she would tell me "well have a January baby then" It didn't occur to me until we were TTC how mean that was to say to my mom. I never considered how long they had been trying or the fact that they were probably over the moon just to have a baby. It's not like they planned to have me in November.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?

I have a January birthday and I wish I had a summer birthday. I hate that all of the fun is bunched in two or three months, then I have the whole rest of the year. As a kid, I hated the fact that I had school on my birthday and that it was always cold.

As a mom now, especially one who took 9 months to conceive DD, I could care less about the month she was born and I was just thrilled I was pregnant!
