Re: Ham & Cheese sandwich
I would eat it.
Having one isn't going to kill you. Some might say you need to heat the meat in the microwave for 30 seconds but GROSS.
I say eat it and enjoy.

Re: Ham & Cheese sandwich
I avoid all cold cuts. I don't eat ham anyway, but if it was freshly cooked by you and then you sliced it into a sandwich, then I would be ok with it.

Re: Ham & Cheese sandwich
I haven't had one but that sounds good. I actually think that Ham is probably one of the only cold cuts that would taste good heated up. And with some nice cheese melted on it too that would be great.
I dont think it would be wise to eat it cold however.

I avoid cold cuts unless I heat them to steaming.

Re: Ham & Cheese sandwich
i bring ham sandwiches to work almost everyday. i heat a few slices on a plate in the micro for about 20 seconds then put the plate in the fridge while i make the rest of my lunch/snacks. when i'm done it's usually cool enough to make my sandwich. then i bring it in a lunch bag with an icepack so by lunch it's cold as usual.

Re: Ham & Cheese sandwich
if its a cold cut pretty much every dr, nurse, nutritionist etc will tell you to just heat it first to kill any possible bacteria. You can refrigerate it again if you would rather eat it cold - it just has to be nuked to get rid of the chance of listeriosis

Re: Ham & Cheese sandwich
I have heard not to eat cold cuts, but like a PP said in moderation should be OK.
My SIL told me she had ham & cheese sandwiches like every other day, that was her craving, so I caved.
I had a ham & swiss with lettuce tomato, mayo & oil & vinegar on a roll. Gosh it was so good, but this is the first time I had a cold cut sandwich since being pregnant (almost 14 weeks), now my craving is filed and I should be good for weeks lol
Thanks for the advice ladies!

Re: Ham & Cheese sandwich
I avoid cold cuts completely, but I am admittedly following strict food rules!
Here's some info from CSPI regarding pregnancy & cold cuts:
The risk: Listeria (Listeriosis)
Where it’s found: soft cheeses, unpasteurized milk products, deli meats, smoked seafood
Why it matters: Listeriosis causes flu-like symptoms. It can be passed to an unborn child, resulting in miscarriage, premature birth, or birth defects. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.
How to avoid it: Do not eat unpasteurized, soft cheeses (such as Mexican-style, brie, and Feta). Re-heat deli meats to steaming. Avoid smoked seafood (such as lox). Do not drink “raw,” unpasteurized milk.
Q: Isn’t listeriosis rare?
A: In the U.S., an estimated 2,500 persons become seriously ill with listeriosis each year. Of these, 500 die. Pregnant women are about 20 times more likely to contract Listeriosis than other healthy adults, due in part to immune systems that weaken during pregnancy. An estimated 1/3 of all listeriosis cases occur in pregnant women. Rates of listeriosis may be underreported, because symptoms can take up to two months to appear. In addition, miscarriages and premature births that may be caused by listeriosis may never be conclusively linked to this illness. Q: Is it safe to eat deli meats if I buy them from a reputable source?
A: Unlike many bacteria, Listeria can live in refrigerated conditions, and on metal and plastic (such as meat slicers and food packaging). Unless food contact surfaces are adequately cleaned and sanitized between each contact with food items, they can easily become re-contaminated with the bacteria. Even a reputable grocer or butcher may have difficulty completely eliminating Listeria from food contact surfaces. You should always re-heat deli meats to steaming before eating.
