Beach Vacation

DH and I are looking to take a family beach vacation this summer with the kids & the dog. We want a place in driving distance (as far as NC) and we want to rent a house. No idea where to start looking - I did some research on the OBX area w/ Sun Realty online but most of the houses are for bigger groups - it will be just the 4 of us. Anyone have any recommendations of family friendly areas? And how to go about finding a house? I'm clueless as to where to begin. Thanks!

We have rented a house for a week in Cape Cod in the past. It's very family friendly and definitely a driveable distance. We used VRBO.com several times with excellent results.

Go to Topsail Island! They have lots of condos and smaller houses on the beach. Go to rentabeach.com and you can put in all of your needs.

Growing up we spent April break and weeks in the summer going to our house in Duck, OBX. Actually my dad built it! We used to rent it out under Atlantic realty. It's located in Port Trinitie. We sold it about 9 years ago. You can find houses for any size family and there are a ton of realty offices to use as well. I love all of the Outer Banks.

If you don't want to drive too far, how about the Jersey Shore? I have friends that live in Sea Isle City and we visit every summer. It's family oriented and not a far drive to other places like Cape May, etc. There you can rent houses as well.
