38 week appointment today! We have progress!! ETA: slight update re: ILs
I'm kinda in shock right now, but in a good way!
I'm 2 cm dialated and 75% effaced. The baby's head is "really low" and my uterus is tipped in the proper position for birth.
The midwife was pretty surprised when she checked me! But it's so exciting! The internal didn't hurt AT ALL, and she said she could feel our baby's head!!!!!!! DH was amazed! He kept wondering how far in her hand was lol. But he didn't look closely enough to tell. I don't think it was in far at all, though, from the way it felt!
The only scary thing was after I went to the bathroom (thank goodness before I left the doctor's office) and I'm bleeding bright red. I came out in a panic but the nurse assured me it's completely normal and totally fine. She said I could bleed on and off for the next day.
As far as tomorrow's Christmas eve plans go... DH emailed his parents the stats from today and basically said we're probably not coming but will decide tomorrow. But he's totally on my side about this so I already feel so much more calm. 
I'm so happy I have good news to report! Thanks everyone for your support and well wishes! I'm very excited!
ETA: Slight update:
My FIL is a really selfish person. First he emailed back that we can meet somewhere halfway to exchange gifts over an early dinner today. DH said "why don't you come out here and see our house and we can spend a little more time together" and FIL said "we'll just come after the baby is born." What a jerk. But it sounds like we're definitely staying home. I don't even want this man around our child, but it sounds like I don't have to worry about it too much since it's not like he's gonna travel to us! My parents have been to our new home more than his and they live 500 miles away in NY, not 1.5 hours!!!
Christmas Day Edit:
No progress baby-wise, but I'm really glad we didn't go yesterday. I wasn't feeling well and had contractions for a while last night. We went out to dinner with some friends for thai and I ate super spicy curry which was delicious!
We did do a video chat with the ILs yesterday. After all that, I'm still really glad we didn't go and DH stuck with me.

With that kind of progress, I think it's wise not to travel too far from your hospital right now! Glad DH emailed his parents.

Are you SERIOUS, Sandy? Even after what your MIL had said about definitely coming to you if you couldn't go to them?
I feel so bad for you and your MIL too ... that's not right, and very selfish of your FIL.

What did DH say?
He was really surprised at what a jerk his dad is being too. I texted my SIL and it sounds like she may come out for dinner tonight though. It's really nice of her. I think DH is just surprised his dad is so unreasonable. I don't think we ever quite expected this.
SIL is being really nice -- she agrees that MIL probably did not discuss the "be sure we would come to you if we have to" line in her email with FIL before she sent it yesterday.

I really want to punch your FIL in the ball sack. He's being a super douche -- and it seems he has this "you gotta come to ME" mentality about things. D*ck!

That is so exciting about the progress and sorry about your FIL - that really is a downer. I'm glad your LO will have so many other loving supportive people in her life. And I'm glad you are being fully supported by your DH now. So maybe now you can relax stress free and enjoy the holidays (well as stress free as one can be when they are so about to become a mom!!!!!!! )

WOW, I can't believe he wanted to meet halfway, as if gift exchange was the only thing that mattered! Glad you get to stay home though, all that traveling can be stressful! .

Oh well... live and learn.
As long as the baby is ok, we'll be fine. Christmas just came at a bad time this year i guess for us.
Makes me want to eat the box of chocolates I wrapped for him all by myself!!

Thanks everyone!
We're definitely staying home tomorrow. My friend suggested I tell them we're sorry but next year we'll be 3 to make up for missing this year. She made it sound so simple. But it's true!
I'm still bleeding but I can tell it's still blood from this morning because it's dark colored now. Bleeding is scary!!!
I'm feeling pretty good. DH just helped me clean the kitchen BIG TIME which I had been begging him to do (he still doesn't understand why I can't do it all myself... he kinda has a point, but for some reason it's just a zillion times easier when we do it together). It's great -- I still have to do a bunch of dishes, but the part we cleaned makes me feel so refreshed!
We took a walk earlier and I was cramping the entire time we were walking. But I'm in such good spirits now. I can't believe what a relief this is NOT to be going on this long drive tomorrow anymore. I just want to wrap everything in the house now so DH has more to open for Christmas... but it's ok. I'm still excited about the things I have for him. We'll have our own little Christmas waiting for baby and it will be just fine.
