those with 3 yo in preschool- not sure how to handle this
DD is in preschool every day. I picked her up today, buckled her in. after we pullecd out, i asked her how her day was, she told me a girl punched her in the face. according to DD, they were in the gym playing (they have an indoor gym for when its cold out), and another girl didnt want to let dd on the slide nad punched her. DD told me she went to teacher, she was crying, and teacher told her it would feel better. 1. I didn't know that DD even knows the word punch, i don't know if she actually even knows what it means. 2. I don't know if she told teacher what actually happened. who knows, shes 3.
I wont see teacher until after break. she does have school tomorrow and thursday, but nanny is tkaing her, i work wed/thurs. I do NOT have teachers email. would you call? i knwo kids hit, so on, and i don't want to blow this out of porportion. not sure if a phone call is too much.

I would call and ask, especially since I know sometimes my 3 year old will hold onto things that happen or will talk about them a lot and I would want to know what happened so I can discuss what happened if she were to bring it up again.

I would send a note/call just to clarify what happened. Not accusing the teacher of any wrong doing but saying that your DD mentioned that another child hit her but you weren't able to get the whole story. No harm in that.

I would absolutely call! I feel that it should have been mentioned to you by the teacher when you picked her up!

I would have the nanny give the teacher a note to call you. I wouldn't wait till after the break.
You will feel better speaking to the teacher to see what actually happened.

Something similar happened to Cailen in the fall. I definitely made sure I had the full story, and requested that the child be watched around Cailen in the future.

I don't know if I understand. So, you want to contact the teacher to let her know that another child hit your daughter and your daughter doesn't hit - to make her aware that the child in your daughter's class hits? I don't know....I guess I would just be concerned that my DD was crying b/c she got punched and I wasn't notified - I would be curious to know what happened and hopefully it doesn't happen again. Hopefully the teacher will keep a mindful eye on the kid.

I would call.
ETA: I changed my mind. I probably wouldn't call. Kids hit sometimes, unless there was a mark, I would leave it alone.
I don't think there is anything wrong with calling though.

ITA. Ale was bit by a girl in school and I spoke to the teacher the next class, she didn't even know it happened. I wanted to clear it all up.

Re: those with 3 yo in preschool- not sure how to handle this
I know, but I was pointing out more that the teacher didn't even know it happened. So she spoke to the other little girl right then and then, in front of the dad, and turns out yes she did bite Ale, and she got reprimanded even if it was 2 days later. Sometimes the teachers don't know everything that goes on, even if you DC said she knew, so I think it is important to air it out, KWIM?

Re: those with 3 yo in preschool- not sure how to handle this
I would probably just ask the teacher. I am actually a preschool teacher for 3 year olds and a lot of the time kids will use the word "punch" or "hit" when it was an accident. Generally, the procedure is to fill out a report if there is a mark or anything (which a parent is required to see and sign). From how this sounds, I would think the teacher was told by your dd since it is rare that 3 year olds don't "tattle"..they can't help it..lol. I understand you are concerned, but the pushing and shoving does happen amongst the 3 year olds more often than not. These actions are rarely ever violent and as teachers we do our best to teach them the difference between right and wrong. We just need to remember that they are 3 year olds. I would definitely just casually ask the teacher about it but I am sure that if it was that horrendous of an incident that it would have been mentioned to you. hth!

I would 100% call and ask.
To be honest, if your DD did go to the teacher crying after being hit, I'd be more concerned why there was no mention of it or an incident report. I'd do what the OP mentioned and just ask (non-confrontationally) did something happen yesterday?

Re: those with 3 yo in preschool- not sure how to handle this
I would call the teacher and I am suprised the teacher to speak to you first. A few weeks ago my sons (also 3) teacher pulled me aside to let me know that another boy snuck a rock into school and bounced it off my sons head...The teacher said she wanted to tell me the whole story before hearing it from my son. They did call the other parents to the school...I let it go this time but I swore to myself if it happened again I was going to speak with the parents myself.
