"Decorating-ly Challenged"

Am I the only one who is completely challenged when it comes to decorating my house???? I have been in my home about a year and a half now, no pictures on the wall, my vases and tid bits are just a mish mosh of different styles....I can't just settle on one style. I picked a deep blue color for my bedroom which is PERFECT considering my bedding is Green and Pink I picked deep blue curtains for the living room window but now I want shades or something else? I'm a mess. Kitchen is a copanata color and I pick a great huge clock for it, bring it home and it just BLENDS into my wall....

*** is it only me?! Any advice on how to get myself together here? LOL I have people coming over for a Christmas Party in 3 weeks and I was looking around last night just like....wow....

This is my fear. We are in the process of buying our first home and i'm terrified that I'll have no idea how to decorate it.

Right now we're in an apartment in bf's parents house, but it was his before I moved in, so it's still like a bach pad.

I really hope everything will just come together somehow. I get anxiety just thinking about it...lol

Can you ask a friend that's good at that stuff come over and help?

I am so with you! I finally put all the pictures in this giant photo collage thing but I need DH to help me put it up. Maybe this weekend! But I figured at least that would take up one big old wall.

I always want to buy wall art but like you said, it's a mish mosh of all different styles and not the kind that comes out looking eclectic, it just looks like a mess.

Cant really help you, but want you to know, it's not just you!! I feel the same way and I hate ittttt. I want an interior designer or something!

I have found many websites and magazines to help me creatively in the home.

I really like decorpad.com. I have copied a lot of ideas from there.

I like Betterhomes and gardens "Do It Yourself" magazine too.

I also think a lot of the ladies on this site have wonderful taste and I have "copied" many ideas Ive seen on here. Mostly from Camacho and JldDolphin (Who sadly is not in LIF anymore )

I could of written this myself and the problem with me is I have all the great ideas in my head but when I try to actually do it it doesn't come out so well. My walls have nothing on them either I need shelves or something

what I would do....go through magazines, catalogs or the internet and collect pictures of rooms you love. I bet youll start to see a pattern in the color and styles you are drawn too.

Then pick your favorite room take the picture to Home Goods and have fun trying to duplicate it as best you can!

Same situation here! I don't know how to decorate at all. Not even a clue where to begin, I don't have an eye for it at all. It's embarrassing!! Nobody ever comes over really but still just for ourselves I want it to look nice!

I always have problems envisioning things in the room ahead of time. So what I did when we redid the living room was plan out the big things first--wall color, furniture, lighting. Then I would look around and get an idea of what would look good in "that corner" or "above that table" and over the course of a month, I puzzle-pieced together a room that I now love. Also if you do it in dribs and drabs, you'll feel like you're spending less money.

If you try to do it all at once, you'll drive yourself nuts.

OH NO!!! She's not on here anymore? I haven't been on in a while and she was always so nice to me and gave such great design advice. Anyone know where she is?

No advice because I am TERRIBLE at decorating my home!!!! We moved into our house in April and it's barely decorated!

One thing that helps me-especially with color-is to find a piece of fabric, bedding, a painting, a plate etc and pull yoru colors from there. I have a color theme in my head from a hand towel my MIL has

A friend came over the other day and has never seen our place... we've lived here for 1 yr and commented "why are your walls bare? where are all your pics? where are your wedding pics?" She must have looked at me like I had 10 heads when I said that I dont even have 1 wedding pic printed up

I find that we stick to alot of the same colors and its hard to get away from that... decorating is seriously no fun to me, but ive learned that i just have to buy things and try them.... not sit in a store for 2 hrs trying to decide what would work well (and then leaving emptyhanded)

find something that inspires you then work off that.

for example i had a fancy pillow i purchased from crate and barrel.

i started to pull colors off that pillow in other pillows, the rug, the accessories etc.

for my bedroom i found a duvet cover with sea green, tan and pale blue...i loved that the colors were so soothing so i worked around that duvet to decorate the rest of the room

try to stick to a theme or color scheme.

Just like your wedding when you picked colors for flowers, bridesmaids dresses etc ...once you get the color, run with it
