Has anyone ever taken Amtrak to Arizona?
I am terrified of flying and was wondering how bad taking Amtrak would be from NYC to Arizona?

I took it to Orlando once because I hate to fly and let me tell you I have never done it again. It was horrible. We were so uncomfortable, the other people on the train were gross, and the train ran out of food.

took it once, NYC to Tampa.
Tons of drunken men on the car.
My sister took it from Philadelphia to Charlotte, she said at every stop, tons of people would get out on platform, smoke with doors open, then get back on.
She said the air was stale.
That is what stops me..Josh would love a long train ride to NY, but I don't want the gross air.
Other people who I have met...mainly from hanging out at railroad tracks and crossings...love long distance train travel. They get their sleeping cabin and love it.

We did the auto train from Va to Fla 10 years ago and it was so fun! I was with my parents and 2 siblings. We had two sleeping cars across from each other and thought it was the most fun thing ever! We didn't have our own full bathrooms which I didn't mind at the time, but if I were to do it again I'd get the suites that were bigger with the in suite bathroom.

I imagine that would take days and several layovers... does amtrak even go that route? It wouldn't be worth it unless you're staying a month. I'm terrified of flying too so I know what it's like and I always try to find alternatives to flying, but sometimes there is no way around it (unless you want to miss out on whatever it is you're traveling for) and I end up having to fly 2-3x/year. Can the dr. prescribe you something?

I agree, I don't even think they go that far west from the east coast and if they diid I would guess it would be a ridiculously inefficient route.. through Chicago or something... might be better off driving and making a fun road trip out of it..
