Outerbanks, NC

I'm trying to plan a family reunion trip to Outerbanks for about 28 adults & 17 kids for next summer. We are looking to rent a couple of houses. Has anyone ever done this? Do you have a rental company to recommend?

Any info would be great!!

TIA!!

Re: Outerbanks, NC

We've rented a house every summer for the past 6 years---the last 3 have been with kids. As far as rental companies, we used Resort Realty the past 2 years and were very pleased. We have also used Sun Realty with no problems and Brindley Beach. The house we rented thru Brindley was our least favorite, but it's hard to tell if it was just the house, KWIM? We stay in the Corolla/Whalehead beach area and love it---I will be honest I don't know a whole lot about other areas as we have always gone here, it's quiet but still with some things to do. Feel free to FM any questions.

We went this past year and LOVED IT! It was one of the best vacations but you have to want it to be a beach and hang out sort of vacation.

We used Midget Realty and were in Cape Hatteras.

Re: Outerbanks, NC

We rented a house this past August. It was amazing! We actually rented the house through VRBO.com. It was very simple. We ended up choosing a place in Hatteras Village. We were within walking distance to the ferry to Ocracoke Island -- so as far south as you can get. The beach was phenomenal, the restaurants were great (and very laid back). It is the type of vacation that you can hang all day on the beach, or be as adventurous as you want. This is what makes it great for a large group. Check VRBO to see where you want to stay and what your options are. I think this is wise to do, even if you end up going through an agency. Have fun!

Pretty much Heaven on Earth...

my parents own a vacation house down there... so i'm pretty familiar with the area.
basically, there are 2 areas. if you want more "stuff" around ( shopping, restaurants, etc)... you probably want to look in Duck, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills....
BUT there is also Cape Hatteras ,too. CApe hatteras is a national seashore, so a lot of it is preserved. (The towns here are Hatteras Village, Rodanthe, Salvo, Buxton, Avon) There is definitely still plenty to do there... just not quite as much as the other towns I mentioned. Avon is the town that seems to have the most going on ( movie theater, big food lion grocery store, the avon fishing pier). The cool thing too is that at night, you can have bonfires on the beach!! nothing better than just haning out by the campfire on a beach in the middle of nowhere and looking at the stars Chat Icon
Basically, the whole area is just a great place to hang out on the beach for a week with the family Chat Icon
As far as rental agencies- my parents rent their house through sun realty
(sunrealtync.com), but there is also midgett realty, surf or sound realty, hatteras realty, twiddy realty.... i think they're all great. you can just search their websites for houses that match what you're looking for. or, i think they all have people who work for them who specialize in booking houses for big groups, too so its definitely worth calling.
have fun!!! and like i said, feel free to FM me with any questions!

We have gone several times and always had a great time. We used Village Realty each time (www.villagerealtyobx.com) With that many people you are probaly better off calling the office and seeing what houses are next to one another, or in close proximity.
We have stayed in Nags Head and Corolla (specifically the Currituck Club). I liked the Currituck Club, but you are not on the beach, it is a 5 minute drive. They offer trolleys to the beach and have a service where they will set up your stuff on the beach too.

DH's friends have been doing this for like 5 years, we went 2 years ago and just got our lease for August 2011. We are using Surf and Sound Reality. We like to stay in Rodanthe.
It really is a great vacation... the ride is the worse part!

We used emerald isle realty twice, and Carolina designs another time. We were happy with both companys, We have a large family as well, so the last house we had was really big, 10 bed/10 bath..Had everything one could possibly need.

Re: Outerbanks, NC

We went this past year with family members to Corolla and rented several houses in the Corolla Light resort through Brindley Beach rentals. I highly recommend them along with the resort..it has nice pools, nature areas, tennis etc. also its out of the way of the built up part of the OBX. another thing we liked is that in this particular resort, you can rent the big multibedroom houses or smaller 3 (or s) bedroom townhouses and all are close together. so if some people want to rent on their own or with the group, there are options for both. Loved it and had a great time!

ETA: in Corolla Light you are about a 2-10 minute walk from the beach and pool depending on where in the resort you are. they do have trolleys if you are in the further areas.
