Where do I find rental properties (apartments or homes)?
I've been living with family for the past year while I was separated from STBX. I'm now at a point where I think I have to start looking for my own place again. Can anyone reccommend good websites to search for apartments and/or rental properties? I need a two bedroom and need to stay on under $1600/month. I checked craigslist and rent.com but so far I'm not seeing much.

In what area? Fairfield properties run a bunch of rentals on LI.

if you are looking for a complex, Fairhaven, Eagle Rock, Home Properties are some to check.
If you want to rent a house, MLSLI.com has a rental listing, you will wind up paying a broker fee but you can find some nice places.
I have also looked on Craigslist for apartments

MLSLI has an option to search for rentals.

We checked craigslist daily....and wanted to go through a real estate, more money but because of it we know the apt is legal if not a full house, landlord is on the up and up etc.. Our current landlords a real piece of work and we wanted to avoid that again.
We found someplace on craigslist within 3 days of looking.
You have to check like 2x's a day, good apts go FAST.

The Journal News has good apartment listings if you are looking to stay in Rockland - that's where we found our apartment.
