weight gain and eating healthy

So with my first pregnancy I gained 40 lbs! I don't want that to happen again, but I feel like I'm going down that road. I'm 15 weeks and have already gained 7 lbs. Granted, last night's appt was at 7:15 after a filling dinner of sesame chicken and pork fried rice. But, I'm wondering are you ladies eating smart? I really do throughout the day. I bring pretty healthy lunches to work and healthy snacks. When I get home from work and on weekends I feel like I indulge though. I'm just so hungry all the time!! The other problem is that I'm not active at all these days and I'm usually an active person. I have to start walking or using the elliptical that we have in our house!! What are you ladies doing to keep the excessive weigth gain off?

I am the same as you. During the week, my breakfasts and lunches are super healthy. Lots of salads, veggies, grains and protein. But dinners and weekends are HORRENDOUS for me. So far I'm down 3 lbs. at 11w3d, which is a miracle considering how I eat at home ...

I guess I just make sure I eat SUPER HEALTHY at breakfast and lunch so I don't feel so bad when I inevitably indulge at dinnertime.

Try to eat as many healthy meals as you can this way when you do indulge in a nice dinner, ice cream or candy bar once in awhile, you won't feel so guilty. I know the cravings make everything so difficult. I pack healthy breakfast & lunches for work and then when I am home I eat whatever.

Re: weight gain and eating healthy

I always eat really healthy; I'm 31 weeks and now have gained 20 pounds.....I hope to not gain more than 25, but we'll see as I head into these last weeks. I am still really active, but I notice now I'm a lot more hungry. I don't think I've overindulged once during this pregnancy, mainly b/c I find I get full very fast....I probably eat too many carbs, but I think I look pretty good and would say I'm all baby for now. We'll see what these last 9 weeks bring. My mom only gained 14 with me! Unreal!

honestly, as long as you eat reasonably...you will be fine. I lost 30 lbs within 4 weeks of giving birth..doing nothing...i only gained 18 lbs during pregnancy.

Re: weight gain and eating healthy

With my 1st I was about 30 lbs overweight to start with, so I was paranoid about gaining too much b/c it's SO hard for me to lose it -

I simply didn't buy into the whole "I"m pregnant, and I have xyz craving" mentality -

Most of my 'cravings' were for 'bad' foods (of course) but it was never this unbearable NEED for something to be in my mouth immediately - so I'd just talk myself out of it - Most of the time. If I wanted Chinese on Monday night, I'd put it off ........if I STILL wanted Chinese by Weds or Thursday night, I'd have it and get it out of my system -

Beleive me, I ate plenty of crap - I am FAR from the picture of healthy eating !! Chat Icon But I tried really really hard to keep it all in check.

With this pregnancy, I started out 10 lbs lighter than I did w/ my 1st, so still overweight and paranoid - I'm hoping to do the same thing - it's harder this time around b/c I have even less time to take care of myself - but I kind of just have it in my head that I did it the 1st time, so I can do it again -

We'll see how it goes I guess.

Yes I eat healthy and exercise regularly during the week. On weekends I cheat sometimes.

Re: weight gain and eating healthy

Ummm....I am a super healthy eater, and avid exerciser-

Usually a day of eating is like this for me:
Breakfast-eggs in a whole wheat wrap
Snack-almonds or yogurt
Lunch-salad or a hot turkey on wheat sandwich
Dinner-lean meat and veggies, with brown rice
Dessert-grapes or fat free yogurt
**all I drink is water

On weekends I splurge but within reason (i.e. pizza and pasta!)

My exercise regimen is like this:

Mon-Fri-walk 30 minutes a day through NYC for work (lots of stairs included)
Sat, Sun-45 minutes of cardio at the gym
Tues OR Thurs-40 minutes of cardio and weights/strength training

And I've been gaining a pound a week since getting pregnant Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

at 24 1/2 weeks pregnant I'm up 26 pounds Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've been freaking out about it, but my doctor (and all the doctors in the practice) keep telling me not to change a thing, because it's clearly my body just doing what it needs to do.

I'm on track to gain 40 pounds this pregnancy-but my doctor said I'll probably lose it fast because of the diet/exercise plan I've continued the whole time. He also said I'm in better shape than the majority of his patients-which makes me feel A LOT better.

So for me, no matter what I do the weight comes on Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon but I'm trying not to be bothered by it.

I am normally a really healthy eater. I have been pretty nauseaus though and pretty much the only thing that I have been able to eat without feeling sick is fruit and carbs, so I have been eating like crap (other than the fruit). I don't think i have gained much, maybe 2 pounds and I am nearly 11 weeks, but I am REALLY nervous about blowing up.

Re: weight gain and eating healthy

I truly believe that your body gains what it needs to gain for the baby. Some people gain 80 pounds (met a girl this weekend like this) and then lose it all and go back to being tiny!

I am at 40 weeks now i am up 30 pounds and I am happy with that. I have been eating healthy all through out my pregnancy but never deny myself of sweets (cookies, chocolate, cake, ice cream)Chat Icon So basically I eat healthy 80% of the time and unhealthy 20%.

I did gain weight in my legs and azz but I will work on getting back in shape once the baby arrives. Enjoy pregnancy and eating what you want while your pregnant. I did and I am glad I didn't stress the weight. You have the rest of your non pregnant life to worry about what your eating Chat Icon
