DD not eating, not gaining weight
A month ago DD was eating about 30 - 32 oz per day. She was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy and put on Nutramigen. Now she is only eating 20 - 24 oz a day, and still arches her back and thrashes her head about 2 oz into the bottle. I dread feeding her and feel like every feeding is a battle, I feel like I have to force feed her. Yesterday she only had 4 bottles, drank only 3 - 4 oz each time and slept a lot.
Today DH and I weighed her and she is only 11.5lbs (she is 3 months), a month ago she was 10lbs, 10oz. She was gaining about .5lbs a week and now in a months time she didn't even gain 1 lb. Now I am scared, she is STTN (9pm - about 9am) naps 3 times a day and is happy except when she has to eat. When I spoke to the ped last week about her not eating, he said give it another week for her body to get use to the formula. We have a ped appointment wednesday but now I think I need to call a ped. GI. Any recommendations??

Re: DD not eating, not gaining weight
SOunds like she has reflux and its not being managed. She probably needs to go on medication such as prevacid.
My DD had severe reflux. When she was bottle fed she never took more than 18-20 ounces a day. Shh averages about 3/4- 1lb of weight gain every 6 weeks.
At 10.5 months she weighs 15.7 lbs and is not on the growth curve.
Now, she is eating solids and eats an INSANE amount of food and is still this small.
I still have a hard time dealing with teh weight issue and fact that she is so small... but it is what it is....
Get in to see a GI specialist ASAP.... I think once that is managed you'll see a HUGE change.
FM me if you EVER have any ques!

Re: DD not eating, not gaining weight
She has been on Axid since about 5 weeks. She doesn't even want to eat and doesn't cry TO eat, just when she is eating. I feel so bad for her. Any recommendations for a good Ped. GI??

I'm in CT so I can't give you a recomendation.
Axid is just an acid neutralizer... she needs to be on a medication which is also an acid prohibitor like prevacid.
She should also be checked out for pyloric stenosis.
I'm sorry you are having such a hard time... I know how crazy it is to have a reflux baby. I use to also get anxiety attacks every time I had to feed her.
I would find a GI specialist and tell them you need an appt ASAP that your baby is loosing weight and very sick.
Is she really sleepy? If so you need to go to the ped sooner since that is a sign they aren't getting enough calories especially at that young of an age...

Re: DD not eating, not gaining weight
I would have her stool tested. Nutramigen, I was told, helps 75% of babies with a milk allergy, the others need a formula more broken down (elecare, neocate). Also, axid never worked for either of my sons. They were both put on prevacid.

Re: DD not eating, not gaining weight
We had her stool tested and she had blood in it, thats why we went to nutramigen. I am going to bring her next diaper in on Wednesday. She is not overly sleepy. She does sleep between 10 -12 hours a night, 45 minute morning nap, and most day 1 hour nap mid day, 1 - 2 hour afternoon nap. Is that normal sleeping??

Yep-amino acid formula. I am shocked your Dr hasn't suggested this at this point. Call your insurance and see if they will cover it

I'm not sure where you are located, but we see Dr. Gold in Babylon and are very happy with him. I would definitely call the ped. if you are concerned and try to see a GI for a second opinion.

thats normal. See about getting her on the amino acid formula now and then follow up with the GI specialist for a medication change
