Any recs for an upscale NYC club or lounge?
I'll be spending the weekend in the city and was looking for a spot for drinks and maybe dancing on Saturday night.
I prefer house music (no hip hop, rap, reggae, etc..) or lounge type (electronica) music.
Anybody familiar with Marquee? Is it any good?
Does anybody know if Top of The Standard is still open?

Ahhhhh hung up my club shoes a long time ago...but I think the China Club is nice (is it still open??). Never been to Marquis.
Also, about the music...you will find that every place plays a mix, so no matter what you will probably hear the stuff you aren't into at some point.
Have fun. Watch out for gropers.

I've been to marquee a few times years ago and always had a good time. upstairs is a lounge area and downstairs there is a big dance floor. been know to spot several celebs too so keep your eyes open. i also like high bar on the west side. has a roof top bar and very cool atmosphere.

The standard is open, but as far as I remember it closes early (around 9pm) for vip.

Not a club but a very cool bar on the lower east side is Libation; they have a dj and its a nice little spot.

I was going to say China Club too!!! In my club days, I thought it was boring - but probably just right for the older crowd such as ourselves!!

I've always had fun at Cielo and SL.
Theres also Kiss N Fly but its super hard to get in, but if you do its awesome!
What about Sin Sin...its a little less showy and a little more fun?

I was at Cielo last month, so that's going to be my fall back.
I was going to give Marquee or Tenjune a shot and figured if I was unhappy (or didn't get in), Cielo was near by (plus there was a hot bouncer there for eye candy. )
I was reading up on Kiss N Fly, but don't know much about it.
And for those that recommended China Club, I don't think it's open anymore.
I wish my standby, Exit, was still around.  Now I feel old.

Are you looking for a club or a lounge, b/c Marquee and TenJune are definitely clubs. It sounds like you want more of a lounge. I've been to Marquee...total club scene....same with Pink Elephant.
I would recommend Ganseevort Hotel rooftop (original location), or there's a new Ganseevort on like 29th and 5th I think that is upscale and nice, but I like the original one.

Cielo, Tenjune... if you like house, but the crowd is a little bit too young for my taste. I love latin and crossover, and I went to SOB's... older crowd, fun music, not that upscale.
Been in Gaseenvort rooftop but just for drinks. It's perfect for that. I love that place.

Wow... exit... that brings back memories!!! i loved that it was sooo huge... i would enjoy just going from room to room... wonder if they did anything with the space 
I was actully just at pacha a couple weeks ago and there was a line just to go outside and smoke a cig... horrible... i miss SF

omg I remember wanting to go to Twylo (sp?) sooooo bad but then there was all the drama with the club and the overdoses (duh) and my mom found out my plans to go and I was forbidden to go...to this day, I wonder what it would have been like.

No where! LOL My a$s is too old for this crap.
We didn't get out of dinner until midnight, headed down to Little West 12th and saw that the line for Tenjune was the shortest (normally I get us on a guestlist, but everything was so last minute that I never figured out where to go.) We hopped on line, we were next to go in, bouncers were very pleasant (surprisingly because I heard nightmare things about them), told us to hang a couple seconds and we would be in. The doorman or promoter (not sure what he was) comes to our line pushing the $800 tables and then pulls the couple behind us in. That ****** me off. (Mainly because it tells me that my a$s is either too ugly and/or too old for the joint. ) The bouncer wanted to know where I was going, so I told him somewhere else. LOL
My poor DH was so frustrated with me because we probably would have been in within a few minutes if I hadn't taken anything personally.  (I turned another year older that night, so I was in a bad state and feeling old to begin with. )
Just as well, we had a lot of work to do on the house on Sunday. We were home by 9am and cutting down trees. <----see!!! That only reinforces my a$s is old!
ETA: I can't believe how crazy the Meat Packing district is!!! Holy cow! Every place had a line that was an hour long, even the crappy bars!

I went to Twilo! It was pretty much a gay club, I went with my classmate and LOVED it because I wasn't getting pawed!!!Didn't see any drugs but i'm sure it was goin on. Oh the techno....
