Ok, so how many of you have zero baby experience?

The last time I changed a diaper, I was probably in my first or second year of high school. I had baby cousins around that time, but they're all grown up now. And DH and I will be the first in both of our families to have a child. The babies are just starting to happen with my group of friends, but other than oohing and ahhing and (nervously) holding them for a little bit, I don't have any real hands on experience.

I'm taking an infant care class next week, but it's just a one-time deal. I'm hoping that good 'ol maternal extinct will just kick in and I'll know exactly what to do.

Anyone else nervous about this?

I have changed two diapers in my LIFE and that was 7 years ago.

Yep.

I haven't held a baby since I was a kid and was "holding" it on the couch.

Should be interesting!

I have ZERO EXPERIENCE. I haven't changed a diaper ever.

I am hoping it will all come naturally to me. Plus we are taking a Baby Care 101 class in 2 weeks, hopefully they will go over the basics.

Before DS I had no experience. Your maternal insticts really kick in. Don't worry you will be fine!!

I was 9 when my brother was born, so I had a ton of baby experience back then. But it's been so long (he's now 19), I'm hoping I remember some of it....

DH and I have zero baby experience! We have never changed diapers, and rarely get a chance to hold an infant. For some reason DH and I aren't nervous though!

Re: Ok, so how many of you have zero baby experience?

My sister had 2 boys before DS was born. And although I always loved to play with them. I never changed their diaper, babysat, etc.

Didn't have any affect on me mothering DS. Believe it or not, it really all does come naturally. I EBFd 14 months, can probably change a diaper with my eyes closed, and love playing with him.

College was the last time I changed a diaper.

I don't even hold babies until they are at least 6 months. Oh well, I think I have to take a class.

Although i'm the baby of the family, my mom use to babysit so i use to help her with all the kids. As I got older I enjoyed babysitting myself. I never was a natural like she was but you learn as you go.

ME!

My cousin just had a baby and when she asked if I wanted to hold him in the hospital I replied "i dont know how".. imagine the looks I got saying that with my baby belly sticking out.

I changed my god daughters diaper ONCE and she peed all over her mother minutes later Chat Icon

However, my mom said when I was 8 and my little brother was born I would change his diapers like a champ... somehow 20 years later I cant do it!

Before I had DS, I had zero baby experience - never changed a dirty diaper, never really babysat, etc. I was probably the least maternal person out there! But I will say, you learn fast!! They go through so many dirty diapers and need to be fed and burped so often in the begining that you have no choice but to become a pro fast Chat Icon

Re: Ok, so how many of you have zero baby experience?

I had ZERO experience before DS was born. I held a baby once in my life, never changed a diaper before, never fed a baby milk or food. DH helped out a lot though. He had experience delivering babies/pediatrics and a baby brother so he taught me. DH was great.

If I could do it, ANYONE can.

I dont have much experience at all with babies. Ive only changed 1 diaper in my life but Ive held a lot of babies recently because all my friends are having them. DH has a 10 year old son so he's the one with all the experience.

Ummmm....I only changed a diaper once in my life and it was 14 years ago Chat Icon

I don't have alot of experience with babies, BUT luckily DH has so many nieces that he knows alot about babies. Plus ALL of his friends have kids-and I'm great friends with so many of the wives so I have a solid support system.

I'm the first of my girlfriends to get PG so one day I'll be the expert for them.

Everyone swears though that I'll be a natural and will know what to do once our Chat Icon arrives.
