Packing for Europe in January

DH and I are going to Europe for 2 weeks in January and I need some packing help, please. I am a chronic over-packer, but I really need to pull it together and fit everything into one bag. I know I'm definitely bringing dark grey riding boots and black hunters, but I'm not sure what else. I'm thinking that my best bet is to stick to a very monochromatic palette (black, grey, olive green, some brown) and have a few pops of color with hats, scarves, etc. We will be in Paris, Normandy, Amsterdam, Berlin and Prague and doing LOT of walking. Any advice is appreciatedChat Icon TIA

Re: Packing for Europe in January

its going to be very cold so make sure you have layers and nice thick socks for those boots

(paris in oct was cold so january will be even more cold)

as for colors, i would go even more simple with choosing EITHER black or brown

(ie -if im wearing brown, i like to have brown shoes and brown purse so eliminating one of those colors will make packing a little easier by just sticking to one)

i like to look nice as well as be comfortable so i go with a bunch of button downs or turtlenecks and long slimfit cardigans in neutral colors over them, with skinny pants/jeggings and boots.

bring 14 pairs of underwear and 2-3 bras at least.

Also if you will be wearing socks, bring enough for every day.

if you want an extra layer of warmth you can wear opaque tights under the pants

maybe bring a pair of heels in case you go to a nice dinner and also one dress you can wear that wont get wrinkled in your bag

flast are good too becasue when you wear boots every day, they will get gamey. You may want ot consider bringing flats or another shoe so you can alternate every other day, giving your boots a day to "dry out"

don't forget an umbrella, also cross body bag is an essential for travel and walking around. maybe a small clutch to use for when you go out

if i think of anything else ill add

Re: Packing for Europe in January

I was in London last December. Some days were colder than others, but definitely bring things you can layer.

Also, definitely bring some rain gear - coat & boots.

Think of Paris, Berlin, etc... like NYC. It's cold! Get your warm coat, gloves, hat and scarf. And warm socks for your boots.

Feb. is the coldest month. January is right behind. You will be in very cold weather. It's damp/humid too!

Sometimes the ground/pavement is so cold you have to "tap" your feet on the ground if you wear regular shoes with thin socks to move them because your feet will feel so cold. BTDT waiting for a bus!!!!
