Re: Those who have dealt with surgery/general anesthesia for your infant/toddler:
Well Ale is over 3, but I can tell you that she actually had a really good appetite later the same day as the surgery.
After she woke, she cranked for a while -- very out-of-sorts. Then she went back to sleep, on DH's chest, for over an hour. When she woke up, she was almost her old self. They told me in recovery that if the child goes back to sleep for a while after coming out of the anasthesia, they have a better chance of not being nauseated and recouping more quickly from the anasthesia itself.
Also -- when they put the mask on Ale, I held her in my lap with my arms hugging her so that she couldn't lift her arms and pull the mask away. This worked much better than if they laid her onthe table and restrained her to put the mask on. I told her it was a super-hero mask so she went along with it.
Good luck!!!!!

Re: Those who have dealt with surgery/general anesthesia for your infant/toddler:
My son had to go under general anesthesia at 3 years old. They gave him something orally and he was hilarious, it was so funny ot see him loopy, and I expected to be freaked out. DH took him into OR. We met him in the recovery room and when he woke up he was crying. He cried for about 25 minutes and he was a bit cranky for 1/2 hour. Then he was fine. A little sleepy as the day went on, but nothing major. He drank alot when he got up also and ate noramlly an hour or so after.
Good Luck!

DS went under anesthesia when he was 10 months old. Everything went smoothly. He was a bit groggy after and drank a lot of liquids, but after a little rest, he was back to his normal self!

DS had surgery when he was 7 months old. He came out of it great! Surgery took about an hour and half and was back to himself bouncing around by the time we got home.
