Thanks for all the replies!! Seems that at some point in 2011 we will in fact be moving. My DH hasn't had much to say about it after that one night we talked about it, but he knows it's the best thing for us. He will also be able to get his job back if the worst case happened to us. He has been looking at jobs down there, but is waiting until another week or so to actually fill them out LOL. Guess he's just getting ideas first. I can't wait to get all our debt paid off so we can go!!

We moved down to the Raleigh area and are making almost the same as we were up in NY. We were able to buy a brand-new, 3200 sq foot home with very, very low taxes (with almost 3 acres) for a great price. We love the slower-paced lifestyle (the area I am in is fairly rural) and how most of the people I encounter are very sweet.

Of course, it hurts to be away from my family but in the end, it was either buy a small fixer-upper on LI and get killed by taxes, and struggle to make ends meet, or have alot more breathing room down south. We don't have any regrets.

Moved to GA 10 years ago and it was the BEST decision for us as a couple starting out and now as a family. Sure we miss family gatherings and so on but it is what is it and sometimes it's better to be 1000K miles away Webcam's, Instant Messaging, phone, all work nicely and we do visit quite a bit as well as get visitors often. buy a home that fits you..you don't need the mansion(imho )

Remember why you are moving down here-I have seen people get very caught up in a fantasy.
I moved down here so I could see dh and be with my kids.
that was the goal.
2 modest paid off cars, small house in perfect neighborhood, great school, short commute for dh.

I am happy down here because goal accomplished.

We moved to Matthews Nc (just outside Charlotte). Loved Matthews cute charming town old feelings. Cheap house cheap taxes. Dh kept his job in ny with a ny salary which goes a lot further than a NC salary. We rented to make sure it was for us. We moved in june came back to visit ny in aug and planned our move back in sept. We lived out our lease until july the next year and packed up ds who was 4-5 months old and headed HOME. The market tanking worked in our favor since home prices went way down. I think had it been a different time in our lives (no kids maybe older and ready to retire) it woukd have been different. My brother was there and the weather was killer. I def miss wearing flip flops in Jan. But the slower lifestyle the fact that I personally found it a bit racist for my blood. I wanted my ds to be near his family and grow up with them all around like we did.

Oh and it is def cheaper not food but overall cheaper. We paid off almost 20,000 in debt before we moved back to ny. So that in itself was a huge bonus. But it was also the worstbyear of our marriage because dh worked from home and we were ALWAYS together no breaks no other adult interactions yada yada.

it is crazy how food is more expensive down here!!
we always joked that if i wanted to make stuffed peppers we would have to take out a loan.
or how grapes are only for holidays and bdays
