here with an update & birth story! *edited with pic in original post*
hey ladies!! its been such an overwhelming past couple of days... im just getting a chance to sit down and post now
i got released from the hospital yesterday... we left around 530 and it was the hardest thing ever. i've had so many crying outbursts over not having Ethan home with us... its a very weird feeling that im not pregnant and there is no baby here... we went back to see him around 9 last night (we get to go whenever we want around the clock) and i got to do his 930 feeding... leaving last night was a little better, but still hard
i spent most of the morning with him & DH and i are going back in about an hour.... he got taken off all IV meds today & the doctors are hoping to have him in a regular crib later this night or tomorrow... then he has to be in a regular crib for 2 days before he can go home
now, onto the birth story...................
last tuesday i woke up at 330am to pee... i pulled my pants down & noticed a little bit of red blood in my undies... i sat down to pee & felt a HUGE GUSH come out of me & it literally sounded like someone dumped water into the toliet. i looked in the toliet & it was ALL BLOOD... i freaked. i screamed for DH to wake up & we rushed to the hospital. my OB got there & did an internal exam... my water was still in tact, but my cervix had started to open... i wass 1cm dilated at that point. my OB started me on meds to try and stop labor & gave me one shot of steroids to help the babys lungs mature (incase he needed to deliver) and i would get another shot 24 hours later -- the steroids take 48 hours to start working from the time the first shot is given. 12 hours after getting started on the meds, my contractions just kept getting worse & closer together so my OB basically said, "yup this is it! this kid wants out"
he wanted to keep me pregnant for as long as possible -- if he had his way, he wouldnt have delivered until i was 36 weeks. in the middle of the night wednesday, i get woken up at 1am by 2 nurses giving me oxygen & telling me to flip to one side of my body... aparently, my body was having these massive 5 minute long contractions & everytime i would have them, they would squeeze the baby so tight that it was causing his heart rate to drop.... so of course i freaked! the next day i saw my OB who said that he wanted to see how the day went with the long unusual contractions and he would talk to me later in the day
so i went on that whole day having regular contractions for an hour and then i would have a really long massive contraction. around 5pm my OB came back and basically said that at this point, hes not sure why my body keeps having these contractions & the baby will be better off on the outside than inside me. he said that he was willing to let me try and have a vaginal delivery, however he was almost certain that it would end up in an emergency c-section b/c of the pressure it would take to push him out.... once i heard that i told him to just go ahead with a c section. i started getting prepped right away & then around 730 i was brought down to the OR!
the c section itself was SUCH a weird experience... it was also a very pleasant one & i wasnt freaked out while lying there at all... my OB is AMAZING and talked me throughout the whole thing which made me feel good.
Ethan was born at 819 & came out WHALING crying -- which made me happy since they were worried about his lungs.... the nurses wrapped him up and i got to see him very brefily & then he got taken away to the NICU.... then it took my OB about a half hour to stich me back up.... i didnt get to see Ethan for the first time until around 11 that night
im still in a lot of pain & had some really horrible experiences that go along with having a c section that i will share if you really want to hear them lol i really never imagined giving birth the way i did.... i also never imagined i would be a SEPTEMBER mommy! lol
DH has been AMAZING the past week... between being at the hospital everyday & dealing with my crying fits lol he is really my rock
thank you again for all your prayers & good thoughts the past week... it really helped me!!

Oh My Gosh, what a story, I am so glad your little boy is here and doing well, I could only imagine how emotional you have been, but stay strong and he will be home before you know it

Wow, what a story!!! I was shocked to hear that you delivered since our due dates are only a week apart. I'm glad Ethan is ok, and so sorry you had to go through all that.

So glad everything turned out okay! IT must be so hard to leave little Ethan in the NICU but rest assured that he will be home in no time! I certainly am curious to hear the c section experiences you've been having....I hope they aren't too terrible!!

Oh, Michelle, you have been in my thoughts and prayers!!! I was so happy to read how Ethan came out wailing -- it makes him sound so healthy! I'm glad to hear they're taking him off the meds and trying to prep him for going home soon!!! I can't even imagine what you've gone through, and you are so so so strong!!!

That is wonderful that they believe he might be in a crib by tomorrow!!!!
I can only imagine the roller coaster of emotions you must have had and are having. Many and to you, DH, and of course Ethan!
Can't wait to see pics of your beautiful little boy!
BTW - what were his stats? Height/Weight?
