Thanks daycare -- question about stomach bug
Soo -- at some point late last week Sophia brought home a NASTY stomach virus from daycare.
She started with a mild case of the runs on friday. Sunday my DH's step-sister watched her for a few hours and when we picked her up said she pooped through 3 outfits (why she didnt call us I have NOOO clue. . .)
anyway, I woke up at 12:30am on monday to the worst stomach virus of my life. TMI - puking and peeing out of my butt like I never could have imagined! Only funny now, I wanted to die then. It lasted until wednesday. DH only had the runs. DD vomited once BUT i think it was a coincidence. Anyway, DH and I are basically back to normal other than feeling a little run down. Sophia, on the other hand STILL has the trotts. When should this stop?? She's basically actiing normal, although not eating like she normally does (aka like a cow). Its been a week! Im STILL trying to get the poop stains out of her onsies and sheets
Is there anything I can do other than pedialyte? Does she need to see the Ped? Is milk good or bad for the runs?
This was soo contagious! 80% of her daycare was out for at least some part of this week, and DH's neices caught it from her after being with her for only a few hours last sunday. It's going around -- take care of yourselves!

Val-give her rice. I would call the ped, but considering she is acting normal otherwise and eating still, you may not need pedialyte.
Definitely pick up oxy clean though.

thanks Mich
she's been snacking on puffs and NumNums because theyre rice. We also tried to give her bananas but I guess she's the only 1 year old who isnt crazy about them
I think I will call. Im starting to worry that she's got C-Diff or something. Then again, im a worrier like that and know too much about medicine for my own good. It's like googling without having to google

Re: Thanks daycare -- question about stomach bug
If its been that long I'd take her in.. just to make sure. But that's me.
I use/used waterproof fabric pads. They are easier to clean and it saves the sheets. I know I tossed a few outfits due to poop stains. thankfully though her runs were usually only a few days and I used to change her every half hour as needed when she got them that bad.
Hope she feels better soon
(oh and she's not the only 1yr old who didnt like bananas ha.. try the BART method of bananas, Apples, Rice and Toast... which ever of these works)

Re: Thanks daycare -- question about stomach bug
Was she on antibiotics? Liam had that last spring and I have been dealing with it ever since then. I can't get rid of it!
Liam started with loose mucousy poop again today (he went 4 times) and I am SICK with worry. I am PRAYING that there is stomach bug that he caught and that it's not the dreaded C diff again. Although he hasn't had antibioitcs since May and he is acting fine, eating like crazy and totally normal otherwise. Anyway, no advice. Just sympathizing with the paranoia. (I do know that the ped. GI said that after the true watery diarrehea is over that pedialyte only makes it worse and it isn't needed)
Does she have a cold? Liam has a cold and is very junky sounding in his lungs but, no runny nose. I am thinking that maybe that is causing the looseness and mucous??? I don't even know if that is possible.

Re: Thanks daycare -- question about stomach bug
DS got a stomach bug earlier this year and it lasted about a week in him - DH and I were better in 3-4 days.
I called the ped in the beginning (since DS was only 3 mos old) and numerous times throughout the week. They gave us a feeding plan - he seemed ok but, he couldn't keep down formula at all. We finally switched to a lactose free and it worked the best (I would think milk would have a similar effect as a milk based formula).
I spoke wiht my cousin who's a ped and he had said that he had seen it last 10 days in some cases.

Re: Thanks daycare -- question about stomach bug
Someone I work with was out for 3 days because of this. DS has had a cold for the past 6 weeks so I'm sure if a stomach bug is floating around out there, he'll catch that too. I hope it misses my daycare and our family! Sorry you had to go through that!

Re: Thanks daycare -- question about stomach bug
Stomach virus is the DEVIL. Riley & I had it back in the spring...she was puking everything up and had diarrhea but was happy as anything, and her usual spunky, active self. Me? I was in bed for a good 3 days, I was shot.
This time, she has it again but it doesn't seem nearly as bad, as far as vomiting/diarrhea. But man, she was totally miserable today. I felt so bad.

Yup, that sounds like exactly what I have right now, minus the puking. I pray that DD doesn't get it!!
