Any Hyundai People out there? UPDATED in original post
I took my new Hyundai Sante Fe in to be looked at because I was having transmission issues. It has 5K miles on it. They just called to let me know my vehicle was ready. When I asked what the issue was they said the computer's shifting pattern has to be erased and reset. That the car should only have one driver for the first couple thousand of miles otherwise the computer gets "confused" since it is programmed to learn the shifting pattern of the primary driver. Someone please talk me down from the ledge before I go an pick up the vehicle because this sounds absurd to me. Are they telling me my husband cant drive our new vehicle because the car cant "handle" multiple drivers?????? Am I going to have this issue everytime my husband drives? I drive during the week by my husband drives on the weekends when we go out together. I'm NOT going to tell my husband that he CAN'T drive OUR vehicle.
UPDATE: Here is the official word from the Hyundai service...transmission is controlled by computer...there are no belt or things to "adjust." The computer learns certain shifting patters based upon what it has done in the past. When another person drives it, the computer gets confused and can cause the transmission to not shift into gear at the same RPMs as it would when the primary driver does. Therefore it is recommended that for the first several thousand miles, it should have only one driver....until it is "broken in." When I told the tech that it was ludicrous for my husband to not be able to drive the vehicle he stated it was "just a recommendation." However, they did give me my oil change for free since I was ticked off

Re: Any Hyundai People out there? Or car people in general????
My parent's neighbor has a new Hyundai and one day, he couldn't start the car. They had to tow it to the dealership to get it fixed. Computer problem.
The SAME day my Dad was driving their 1 year old Hyundai Tucson and the car was running rough and he had trouble starting it. Towed to dealer, computer problem.
I'm wondering if this is one of those things that will turn into a mass recall. They had had absolutely no issues prior to this. It seems weird, all these coincidences.

Check your owners manual - if this is true it should be mentioned in there.
I have an older Santa Fe and the manual mentions something about "breaking in " the car - but specifically about not driving over 55mph and things like that.

My MIL had a problem with her 1 year old Santa Fe this summer - needed a new computer. But she was never told when she got it no one else should drive it, my DH drove it and so does her BF.

Re: Any Hyundai People out there? Or car people in general????
We have Santa Fe's and Tuscon's and an Elantra in our family - we like Hyundai's!
All we were ever told was to keep it under 55 mph for the 1st 1000 miles, which we did for each. We haven't had any computer issues (knock on wood).
ETA: Did you take it to the dealership for the repair or a car garage?
