Feeding questions for 9 month old

Xavier will be 9 months on Sunday and I have a few questions on feeding.

What spoons are you using now? Daycare suggested we switch to the plastic ones instead of the Gerber little ones.

What is your DS feeding schedule like and how much of the food and formula are they having? DS drinks on average 28-30 oz a day plus 3 meals a day with dessert (except for breakfast). Will add a snack this weekend. Some people say he should be drinking more formula or having more food...

What sippy cups are you using? I currently use the Nube starter one but wondering if I should switch to another kind of cup..

Thanks!Chat Icon

Re: Feeding questions for 9 month old

Our pedi said at 9 months that DS is fine drinking between 18- 28oz a day with 2-3 meals. He was getting 4 tablespoons of cereal in the morning with a jar of fruit. Lunch was a jar of meat mixed with veggies or rice and a jar of plain veggies. And for dinner I was giving him cereal with either a jar of veggies or meat. Once in a while he would want more food, so I would give him another jar of veggies or fruit. He went on a food strike at 8 months when his teething got real bad. But he was drinking 25-30 ounces of formula a day to make up for it. Now at a little over 10 months, he is just about back up to 2-3 meals a day and 4-5 bottles of formula, 5-6 ounces each...

I use the plastic spoons. DS prefers them over the rubber tipped ones. And I use all different sippy cups. Right now DS likes the soft tipped ones from Playtex. The really soft tip ones from Munchkin leak when he chews on them. Too messy. And the Avent one has a flat tip and DS isn't quite sure of it yet...

Re: Feeding questions for 9 month old

At 9 months, DS was eating 3 solid meals a day (table food) and nursing 4xs per day. I considered a nursing session a snack... He wasn't eating jarred foods anymore b/c he would get so upset by me feeding him. He wanted to do it all himself, so I let him.

As far as spoons go, I only fed him yogurt w/ a spoon, and I'd use the plastic ones that have a little more of a bowl shape to them. Not crazy big, but better than the flat rubber tipped ones I started with. The take and toss spoons are actually perfect.
