Would you buy the Amityville Horror house?
Just wondering, it's been on the news today I think they're having some kind of sale inside.

Re: Would you buy the Amityville Horror house?
Nope... I'm afraid of the dark in my own home that doesn't have a "history" so you can only imagine how scared I'd be in the Amityville house.

Ditto. I don't think it's "haunted" or evil or anything, but I wouldn't want to deal with the passerbys and the "fame" associated with it.

Re: Would you buy the Amityville Horror house?
I would, but I was in the house once. I went to st martins with a girl who lived there when i lived in amityville
My mother went to HS with the guy who killed his parents. she said he was a very dark person and had no friends
the only reason i would re-consider is because so many people drive past the house. amityville does have private police so they usually are very good about handling people, but they have had shutters and fence pieces stolen from the property. and everytime they make another movie, its gets crazy.
But the location is nice, its right on the water, but the SD is horrible! I went there for a while and due to some really bad things my parents pulled me out and put me in private school until we moved out of the town.

Re: Would you buy the Amityville Horror house?
Probably not because of the gawkers. We have friends who live across the street.
Gorgeous, gorgeous houses over there and I think most people can afford to send their kids to private school.
Where we bought now, turned out to be a pretty busy street and this is something I absolutely refuse to have in our next home. I could not deal with a bunch of random people constantly camped out in front of my house, which you KNOW happens there all the time.
(We live in Amity Harbor which shares a zip code with Amityville so whenever we have OOT guests they ALWAYS ask us to drive them past this house).

Nope - too many gawkers... That is exactly why I would not (if I had that $). We used to rent a house around the block from there and moved. From September-ish to early November you could not get near our block from the gawker traffic. Not to mention people would actually approach the house & look in the windows..... not my cup of tea.

Re: Would you buy the Amityville Horror house?
not for the SD...plus I would rather be on the north shore. But if the house was in the right location and good sd I wouldn't care too much - the movie is pretty much forgotten.
Wasn't it sold? A coworker told me her cousin bought it.

I think it's contract - they were having a moving sale I think.
South Amityville is actually a beautiful village - SD sucks but EVERYONE I know living there sends to private schools in the area.

Re: Would you buy the Amityville Horror house?
I would never bc I have a very overactive imagination when it comes to strange noise, dark basements, shadows, opened cabinets that I was sure I closed, etc. I watched too many horror movies in my life. I'm not even a believer in the supernatural but my imagination would do me in.

Not to get off topic, but I don't understand this (unless it's for religious school). Why not get just as nice of a house in mass or seaford and be in a great public school system.

Re: Would you buy the Amityville Horror house?
I love the house but wouldn't buy it because of people wanting to look at it always. That area is really nice of Amityville but the village has taken a hit in this economy and is starting to look less appealing. The real nice thing is even though its a "rich" area its mixed ethnicity which you don't really see in many other "rich" areas.
We wanted to do the sale but the line was ridiculous and mostly filled with people wanted to see the house not the estate sale.
