Help me tone down my anxiety over DD changing daycare rooms next month...

Both DS and DD will be changing rooms in daycare on September 7.

DS I am not worried about. He is moving from his 2-3 year old room and into the 3-4 year old room. He's excited about it and it will be great!

I am a little worried about DD.

She is moving from the infant room to the mobile baby room. She is only going to be 9 months old... actually she changes rooms 3 days before she is 9 months.

Yes, she is now mobile. She is pulling herself up to stand all over the place, she is crawling. So I get why they are moving her.

BUT, the mobile baby room ONLY HAS 1 NAP!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't you think 9 months is too little to switch them to 1 nap???? Chat Icon When I am home with her on the weekends, she is usually ready for a nap by 9:00. Now she won't get a nap until 11:30. 2 years ago when DS was in that room, they did 2 naps.

Eek!

Can someone talk me off my ledge on this one? I am so worried that she is not going to be getting enough sleep.

She only sleeps 10 hours tops at night so I feel like she NEEDS 2 naps during the day. Do you think she may start to sleep more at night once she adjusts to 1 nap a day. Do you think she will be super cranky while trying to adjust to this new schedule?

Ugh, I am just so worried about this.

Don't worry. I'm sure if you speak with the teacher and they see your DD is getting cranky and rubbing her eyes they won't force her to stay up.

At 9 months Mason was on 2 naps, but only napped once at daycare in the early afternoon. His 2nd nap was in the car on the way home from daycare.

This is a good thing. She'll have more fun in the new room. Lots more to do and she can be more mobile.

When Mason transitioned to the bigger room he did great. He was already familiar with the teachers and loved the space of crawling around and the toys in there. More music and story time. No more tummy time activities and quiet time b/c babies slept a lot Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks! Chat Icon I'm sure she will be fine... I just feel like she's still such a baby though! DS didn't start daycare until 12 months, so this is all new to me!

And 2 of her teachers are going to be 2 teachers from DS current room who are moving down and 1 teacher from her current room... so I already like 3 of the teachers!

I just need to breathe!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: I asked about it today in her new room and the current teacher told me that in the past, not all of the babies took 2 naps so it was too hard to deal with half sleeping and half wanting to move around. Much harder to keep them on the cots at that age....OMG... I forgot about that too... that she will be sleeping on a cot at 9 months! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Help me tone down my anxiety over DD changing daycare rooms next month...

I'm trying to remember how many naps DD took at 9 months, and i cant remember....but I think it may have only been one....a long one in the middle of the day....I know by a year she was on one nap...

I think she WILL adjust, and as you said, she might need more sleep at night...so maybe you'll have to try to start putting her down earlier. I know DD is like this - days she has daycare, she is SUPER tired at night and goes to bed earlier....And yes, she might be a bit cranky during the transition...

However, if you really feel she isn't ready for that other room, speak to the director. Just because she is pulling herself up and crawling, doesn't, IMO, necessarily mean she should be moved...maybe a few more months in the younger room, moving her at a year, would be better....You have to be her advocate for whatever your Mommy instinct tells you is best for her.Chat Icon Chat Icon

See, I'd be worried about that as well...I know DD was in a pack and play / crib still at that age.

DS is 14.5 months and his room still has cribs. He's going to be on a cot in the new daycare he starts next month and I'm concerned about that

I really wouldn't be comfortable with this Chat Icon I know how low the cots are, but still...

Why is she being moved so early?

DS is getting close to moving to the mobile room (I'm not sure though since the infant room is pretty empty and most of the people left with him are his age/mobility) and they still have cribs and don't have a set nap schedule.

DS started on the cots at 12 months and he was fine. They are so low to the ground it's as if they are sleeping on the floor so there would be no harm in rolling off. I will have to ask about it.... I don't want her rolling all over the place.

Re: Help me tone down my anxiety over DD changing daycare rooms next month...

When DS went to Infant room C (12 to 18months) I too was a wreck. He wasn't walking yet and they were only going to do one nap and they were sleeping on cots. Well the transition went amazingly well. He slept in a crib the first week but then went to the cot. He also started taking 3 hour naps, still today he still takes a long nap like 2 1/2 hours now. And he was walking in one weeks time once moving into the room.

I think you DC will do fine. I do think they are doing this 3 months sooner than most places, but see how she does. She might just do well and all this worrying will be for nothing. Chat Icon

Both of my girls began their daycare taking one nap a day. They continued with their 2 naps a day on the weekends though for a bit but adjusted really well during the week. I know if any of the kids in the room get tired - they are put in the cribs to go to sleep. Does your daycare do this as well?

I think it is too early for her to go in a cot. My dd just transitioned at 18 months. Although some transition earlier but not as early as 9 mmonths.

Your daycare probably wanted to move her over to make room for another baby in the infant room. I would inquire whether or not she could stay in the other room a little longer and if not, then share your concerns about taking naps as needed. How can they force a baby to stay awake when she is half asleep?! ugghhh! So sorry!

ETA: or you may want to see how she does during her transition period. I am guessing that your dc does a transition?

I wouldn't worry...well I would b/c I did when this happened to my DD but everything will be fine. My DD was moved to the older infant room 1.5 weeks before she turned 9 months and she was not crawling(she was army crawling) or pulling up yet...and the only one in the room that was not doing these things. She also was not even eating table food either. Now she is not even in that room 2 months yet and she is crawling the right way, pulling up...eating a lot of the food the other kids are and learned how to feed herself puffs and cheerios. She also had 2 naps but went down to 1 that is about 2 hours there and then naps again for about an hour on the car ride home...she only sleeps about 8-9 hours at night and is doing fine. I am not sure about the cots, b/c at my daycare they are still in pack n plays...but I think they are pretty much on the ground right?

I have to agree. not ok at all with that.. Also.. why can't they handle some sleeping and some awake. My Daycare goes by the childs schedule not the daycares?

There is no way I would allow Ann at 9 months in the room up from the infant room.

She's 13+ months and still in it now because of the lower summer enrollment. She will actually move in the next two weeks and in the past month has spent a day or two a week in there.

Honestly, when it was first discussed about her moving, I did not want her to move until she could walk because she is small for her age so I wanted her to at least be able to get around (or away if necessary! LOL!). Nevermind anything about naps!!

So your DD would only get one nap and have to sleep on a cot? I would speak to the director about that. I think that is way to young for either.
DS moved into the B room at 9 1/2 months at my request. The room is usually for 12-18 months. He still gets his 2 naps and has a crib.

ETA: He is the only one who does not walk in this room. That doesn't bother me because he gets around very well without walking and he does cruise.

Re: Help me tone down my anxiety over DD changing daycare rooms next month...

When Sean is home (weekends and Mon/Tues) he takes two 2 - 2/12 hour naps.
At daycare he takes one 2 1/2 hour nap -

Sometimes on daycare nights he goes to sleep a bit earlier (8/8:30 rather than 9/9:30) but other than that, he's fine.

He actually napped BETTER when he moved to the mobile room b/c they tire them out and they all nap together -
